This is very interesting, because I can remember specifically that after the Colbert speech (which I personally thought was brilliant), a Washington Post columnist called Colbert a "bully". I remember that specifically because of the absurdity of a comedian "bullying" the most powerful person in the world. Actually, the MSM didn't really take too well to Colbert's speech in the days and weeks after; there was very little coverage of it (despite it's "edginess") and more coverage of the considerably less edgy presentation by the president himself (and his impersonator). Part of the reason the reception of Colbert was so cold was that his speech was actually aimed right at the MSM and it's complicity with the administration in the run-up to the Iraq war. I don't know, maybe they have warmed up to him recently.

I would agree that papers like the WaPo and NYT tend to be "liberal", and I think this is no secret. In fact, I can remember reading an editorial in the Times titled "This is a Liberal Newspaper". But honestly, they pretty much swallow everything the people in power say whole, no matter which party they represent, and aren't that much different than FOX News. And also Colbert, or more directly the "Daily Show" crowd aren't really fans of MSM either, especially cable news channels.
