BloggerNews has learned of a towing company in Sun Valley, California, that appears to be operating outside of well-established California law.  BloggerNews spoke to an individual earlier today regarding an allegedly illegal towing operation conducted against his vehicle in late July by Jon’s Towing.  The company is owned by Hovig Gaboudian.

Our source claims that his vehicle was illegally towed by Jon’s Towing from a retailer’s parking lot in Studio City, CA late at night.  California law requires that signs appear at all entrances to properties with specific language.  California Vehicle Code 22658’s very first requirement states:

(a) The owner or person in lawful possession of private property…may cause the removal of a vehicle parked on the property to a storage facility…under any of the following circumstances:

(1) There is displayed, in plain view at all entrances to the property, a sign not less than 17 inches by 22 inches in size, with lettering not less than one inch in height, prohibiting public parking and indicating that vehicles will be removed at the owner’s expense, and containing the telephone number of the local traffic law enforcement agency and the name and telephone number of each towing company that is a party to a written general towing authorization agreement with the owner or person in lawful possession of the property.

The source provided photographs that purport to be on the entrance to the lot from which his car was taken by Jon’s Towing.  It is apparent that the signage is not anywhere close to being in compliance with state statute, and that Jon’s Towing appears to be in violation of the law:

The victim tells Bloggernews that he attempted to resolve the matter with Jon’s Towing, but that Mr. Gaboudian was not in agreement regarding the amount of damages he was due.  While Jon’s Towing did offer to refund the cost of the tow, the source believes that Jon’s Towing is in violation of state law and should be reprimanded.

The victim intends to sue in small claims court.  However, he first visited the office of the Los Angeles City Attorney to file a complaint directly with the city attorney against Jon’s Towing.

“In my opinion, Jon’s Towing is in violation of the law,” the victim said.  He also said that Jon’s Towing damaged his vehicle.

Bloggernews will provide additional details all this week.  Stay tuned.
