Saudi’s consider sending troops to Iraq

The fact that countries in the region would take an active interest in the Iraqi conflict might be just a tad overdue, although Iran seems to have been taking an ‘active’ interest in it for a while now.  The Saudi’s apparently have decided that the new government in Iraq just isn’t going to get a handle on things.  While publicly agreeing with the proposed US troop surge, the Saudi Foreign Minister, Saud al-Faisal, was privately skeptical of Iraq’s ability to maintain control after the fact.

Keep in mind now, the Saudi’s main concern here is not so much Iraq as a whole, but rather protecting the Sunni population that lives there.  Iran, on the other hand, is a Shiite nation, and we know where their interests lie.  That has been the crux of most of the violence that’s been reported.  Al-Queda aside, US troops have not been primary targets.  It’s been Sunni vs Shiite, and vice versa, reminiscient of the Hatfields and the McCoys, but on a much larger scale.
