I have to admit that I enjoyed the 1996 movie Independence Day, so much so that I have lost count of the number of times I have watched it. I likely can ‘talk along’ with much of it. It is without doubt in my top 5 movies of all time. Other members of this lofty list include Animal House, Armageddon, O Brother and The Blues Brothers.
These movies have given me countless hours of pleasure. I laugh at the mere thought of John Belushi and the Zit skit, and think the line from O Brother “spose you want them chains knocked off”.
Movies are movies, I cannot think of a remake or update that eclipses the original. Rollerball, Blues Brothers, The Italian Job, oh the list goes on and on.
So here we are, next month we will be ‘treated’ to a sequel of Independence Day, will it be worth it? The jury is out as far as I am concerned. However, it has been my observation that the longer the trailer the less likely the movie is going to be a hit. Sure, the folks behind the movie are looking to lure no just the fans from 20 years ago, but their kids, a whole new generation. I think a 5 min trailer is 4 mins too long, but try it for yourself
