Lipomics Technologies Inc. Is in the process of developing a new system used to detect or profile an individual’s capacity for fitness and exhaustion. Patricia Deuster, director of aplied human biology at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland, explains, “Beyond sing bio-markers like blood glucose or blood lactate, there really isn’t anything” to determine an individual’s capabilities.
The Californian biotech firm aims to change this deficiency, and the Defense Department of the United States is willing to help. In fact, they’re funding the basic research. In 2004, Lipomics won a $100,000 grant. They’ve just received a second dose of funding as well. The new tests in which the firm is developing could aid the screening process for soldiers. They will determine which soldiers are aptly suited for particular jobs.
