Dog The Bounty Hunter is a popular and therefore money making enterprise for A&E and the Chapman clan. The genre of Reality TV has grown in leaps and bounds, there are programs about the most bizarre subjects, catching crabs in the Bering Sea, brewing moonshine, living like a prehistoric hermit in New Mexico, and countless ‘survival’ themed programs. The strangest being Naked and Afraid, I won’t explain the plot, suffice it to say it has the credibility of a 3 day old donut.

The question I always have is, if the programs are real why is that most of the time when the credits roll they include a script writer?

I run a reality radio program. There is no script writer, there is no script. I don’t even know who is going to turn up and what strange things may happen during the broadcast.

Americas Most Unwanted is all about the Bail Bond and Bounty Hunting industry (Fugitive recovery). I think it is fair to say that it is a bit elitist and unlikely to draw the attention of John Q Public. My guests are the very top echelon of the industry. Mostly we talk about boring subjects that have little appeal to anyone that is not well versed in the legal and political minefield involved.

Yesterday my plan was to run a perfectly harmless 60 minute program about the responsibilities and legal issues when a fugitive is hurt during a recovery. The average person may not know this, but you cannot take damaged goods to the jail. As I said, a boring subject, alas I did not even get to bring it up. Instead, the subject of Dog Chapman and his wife Beth Chapman took center stage, and 60 minutes became almost 2 hours.

The background to the story began years ago, but hit boiling point last month with a law suit filed by Beth Chapman. You can read it here.

I think it is fair to say that this has become the straw to break the camels back. I had heard some rumblings about the legality of the Chapman enterprise but had considered them largely as just sour grapes or envy of success. Not so, it would seem that the rumblings and grumblings are well founded. I invite you all to listen to the program in its entirety and draw your own conclusions.

There are some questions you should ask, what if any credentials does Duane Dog Chapman actually have? Does he represent the industry in a fair and balanced light?
