While I was watching and listening to the funeral of former President Gerald Ford, I was following the funeral service in the Episcopalian Book of Common Prayer. Gerald Ford was an Episcopalian and the service was held in the National Cathedral in Washington, DC - an Episcopalian church.

Since I was raised as an Episcopalian, the service was very meaningful to me - especially because the Book of Common Prayer was used in his funeral as it was in my father’s. Near the end of the funeral service, John 14:1-6 is read. That quote from Jesus ends with:

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life.

No one comes to the Father except through

me.” (NRSV)

Read the full text of John 14:1-6 here.

I was shocked and saddened when the priest reading the verses left out “No one comes to the Father except through me.”

I knew that the omission was intentional and the god of political correctness was the source.

Jesus help us.
