Who really thinks that all of that water would be used for golf courses? The United States is currently the largest food exporter in the World, and California is one of the most agriculturally productive regions in the world. What will happen to the cost of food should Agriculture in the United States fail? How many people are the greedy Canadians will to let starve to death?

No matter what you do, the Nothern territories in Canada are never going to be productive for agriculture. The Southwestern US can be made productive, as well as North Mexico. Not to mention the Great Plains are going dry, and when they do in a short matter of years US grain production will drop off sharply. The consequences to global food markets will be dramatic.

Conservation is no solution at all, but rather a short term fix, that over time will cause mineral salts to build up in our soils so fields will become less productive over time until we finally run out of water. Conservation demands that agriculture is never as productive as it could be, and with the current world food crisis the results are going to be disasterous on the World's poorest people, and could eventually even affect Europeans.

Quit being greedy Canada!

The Nawapa Project continues the American delusion of continentalism and Manifest Destiny.Your comments tend to dismiss the costs of this potential disaster ,costs probably in the range of 350 Billion dollars. This project seems to be resurrected each time populous areas of the southern US face droughts ,excessive population growth or wastage. To suggest that Canadians could be coerced to modify such large drainage basins so the wealthy of Palm Springs,Phoenix or Tucson can build golf courses in the desert reflects attitues to resources. Conservation is the best and cheapest solution so that more rivers ,Like the Colorado, will not be used up before they enter the ocean.
