Football is a complex subject. There is a whole industry surrounding the enterprise. Statistics are everywhere. It would not surprise me if there is a statistic of how many players had a bowl of Wheaties for breakfast on game day! Statistics are everything. NFL stats are apparently a very important aspect of the game.
Of course there are times when stats can be taken to extremes. OJ Simpson seems poised to lose his crown as the player with most murders under his belt. However he will keep the record of most NFL players that won the Heisman Trophy that went on to kill people.
I am a simple guy, mostly I view statistics with a great deal of wariness. Does it matter that over the past 30 years, team A has beaten team B, 20 times out of 30? I have to admit that this information while good for discussions at a BBQ it has little relevance to the subject. What Team A and Team B did 30 years ago has no relevance.
With that in mind, I merely looked at the win/loss ratio. The NFL loves to create confusion, there are more leagues/divisions/conferences than an ant farm on steroids.
I decided to dump the boring stats that everyone seems to love. Instead I went for the basic facts, who is winning and who is losing.
Based on this simple approach it is clear that the Chargers are in a three way tie for first place!
