For months I have been fighting a nasty little comment pest. Due to a situation several years ago our policy is to put comments from unknown sources into moderation. The Akismet spam detector it pretty good at parking all comments about selling Viagra and Penis Enlargement options in the garbage can. The last time I checked the Akismet stats almost 2 million comments have been put in the round filing cabinet, I have no clue how many proud owners of a penis have been saved from having to read the stupid comments suggesting balms and lotions that can improve a persons manhood.
Akismet is good, but it doesn’t catch the real pests. I have a gnat that I am having problems swatting, there is nothing wrong with the bait he puts out, but it never has anything to do with the article being commented on.
Enjoyed examining this, very good stuff, thankyou. Talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish. by Euripides. Bakdeegggbed

The email address is always Gmail, and the username changes on every comment, they tend to have the format John(letter)(3 digit number)@gmail.com. The ‘thoughtful’ comments always end with a random series of characters.
To add more fun into the mix, the IP address changes for each comment. John clearly likes to travel, he was in Atlanta, Georgia one day and somewhere in Brazil the next. It is hard to believe that John finds time to read this humble website with such a busy schedule.
Putting on my serious hat for a moment. John is a stupid hacker. John wants to get just one comment approved, then he can flood us with whatever crap he is selling.
I rather like the last comment, oh not the content but the IP address. It belongs to the University of Connecticut. I do not think for one moment they are complicit, but I am sure they will be somewhat unhappy. Using .edu accounts for bad purposes generally results in grief.
While I doubt that my friend John is a student, I do suspect that a proxy server is being used. I doubt that the IT department will be overjoyed.
Have a great day John!
