Australia’s main research agency the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, has warned in a report that Asian economies could be rattled by the changing climate in the years to come. Millions of people in Asia would be displaced by rising sea levels and many more would be put at risk for infectious diseases, as a result of global warming. Cutting down greenhouse gas emissions is the only option available for the countries in this region, to minimize the brutal effects of climate change.
People living in low-lying coastal areas of countries like Bangladesh, Vietnam and China could get displaced, as sea levels in these regions are expected to rise up to 50 centimeters in the next 65 years. This climate report wants the Australian government to take necessary steps for assisting the developing countries in the Asia-pacific region to prepare for natural disasters, which looks imminent at this point of time.
