Ashley LyonAn Amber Alert had been issued on June 13, 2014 for a missing 16 year old Florida girl, Ashley Lyon. She was believed to have been with a known sex offender when she disappeared. She left her home at 4705 Water Lark Way in Valrico, Florida on June 11 and no one had seen her since. She was feared to be with a known registered sex offender, Steven Patrick Myers, 41 from Plant City Florida.

Authorities say that a witness contacted them that had seen the girl at the Tiger Truck Stop in Grosse Tete just outside of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Iberville Chief Deputy Stephen Engolio said, “A person just happened to see it on some newscast they hardly ever watch.”

Steven MyersWitnesses say that the girl looked tired and hungry. Someone picked up the phone and reported seeing the man and the girl. As soon as a deputy pulled into the parking lot of the truck stop, Myers took off onto Interstate 10 starting a nearly 40 mile chase. During the chase Myers hit four cars on purpose and he swerved in front of 18 wheelers.

St Martin Deputies along with Lafayette police officers and Louisiana State Police all assisted in the chase using road spikes to flatten the tires to finally stop Myers. The sheriff said that Myers did everything he could to get away. He said the man even rode on the rims until his truck just wouldn’t go anymore.

When he stopped he jumped out wanting to fight. He approached the officers with a knife yelling at them to shoot him. Officers ended up using a taser and a police dog to get the knife away from him. Apparently Myers was suffering with self-inflicted wounds and dog bites so he was hospitalized and will be booked when he is released.

Ashley Lyon was found in the truck once Myers was apprehended. She was suffering from multiple stab wounds and was taken to a hospital in Lafayette. She has been listed as in critical condition. Her mother was flying from Florida to Louisiana to be with her daughter.

I am really glad that the girl was found alive. I just pray that her wounds will heal quickly with no complications. I also pray that she doesn’t suffer too much over the experience she has experienced over the past week. May God be with her.
