Joe Scott is a contractor and real estate developer who built a thriving enterprise from a truck and a toolbox. He has negotiated thousands of business deals involving corporate executives, homeowners, bankers, laborers, and union officials. In addition, he has hired, and been hired by, individuals from every walk of life. Through these dealings, Joe has learned that all people fall into three types – givers, takers, and those who both give and take. Knowing how to recognize and cope with all three types is the key to his success. In this children’s series, he hopes to instill in kids a good foundation for a happy and positive life. His first book, “The Joe Dial”, released in 2011, is age appropriate for those who are 12 to 95 years old. The Friend Ship Friendesha series is based on the adult book, “The Joe Dial.”
Tell us a bit about your latest book, and what inspired you to write such a story.
Meet the Friendeshans, a lovable race of beings who spread friendship and positive energy throughout the galaxy! In this first book of an inspiring new series, the Friendeshans encounter the Oily Spoilies, creatures that thrive on meanness and negativity. What will happen when an Oily Spoily spy gets aboard the Friendeshans’ ship?!
I took my inspiration from wanting to help my children and grandchildren to build a good foundation for a happy and positive life. I wanted to promote anti-bullying, and to have them think positively, and see how they can effect others around them with the same.
What was your goal when writing this book?
Leaving something for my children and grandchildren, something short, simple and to the point, with an easy to understand message.
Who is your target audience?
Children ages 3-8, and their parents to read it to them.
What will the reader learn after reading your book?
Be positive, not negative, and try and show others around you to do the same.
My first book, “the Joe Dial”, is all about my experiences in business, and dealing with givers, takers, and those who both give and take. In this children’s series, it is a fantasy about creatures from outer space, and them helping those on Earth.
Describe your working environment.
I need to be alone to concentrate. At the end of the day, after family time, I like to go into my office and write for a few hours before bedtime.
Do you write non-stop until you have a first draft, or do you edit as you move along?
I like to edit as I go along.
They say authors have immensely fragile egos… How would you handle negative criticism or a negative review?
My books are all about positivity – I try and keep negativity at bay.
When writing, what themes do you feel passionate about?
Positive energy, anti-bullying, and giving children a foundation for a happy and positive life.
Are you a disciplined writer?
Writing is my hobby, and my passion. I need total concentration for my writing.
How do you divide your time between taking care of a home and children, and writing? Do you plan your writing sessions in advance?
I write at the end of the day, when all the work and family time is done, when it is quiet before bed.
Do you have a website/blog where readers may learn more about you and your work?
Do you have another book on the works? Would you like to tell readers about your current or future projects?
Book 2 is also available, and books 3, 4 and 5 will be soon. It is an ongoing series about the adventures of the Friendeshans and the Oily Spoilies.
Thanks for stopping by! It was a pleasure to have you here!
