Shopping for life insurance isn’t usually linked to convenience. But as of lately there has been more and more no medical exam products on the market that create an aura of ease around getting a policy. The issue of course is there are a few options out there to choose from. So let’s review one of the non med options and see what you get and don’t get with an American National no exam policy.

Application

The application with American National doesn’t differ much from its no exam competitors. Like most carriers its a quick application done over the phone with an agent and filled out completely online. Once done it is emailed to you for e-signature and submitted for underwriting. This process can take about 15 to 30 minutes. Some traditional policies still require paper applications that have to be mailed so this is definitely an improvement.

Underwriting

The underwriting can be viewed from two different points of view. If you are looking for coverage as fast as possible maybe this isn’t the carrier for you. While approval for this product is faster than the standard 4 to 8 week process for a traditional policy, its still not as fast as some of its competitors. You can expect to get an approval between 3 and 30 days depending on your situation. Where the underwriting wins however is the risk assessment. Most no medical exam life insurance companies will only take fairly healthy individuals. American National on the other hand, is great no exam option for those who are smokers and may have a history of medical issues.

Cost and Coverage Amount

Because it is a no exam policy the carrier is taking on more risk than with a traditional policy by not administering a medical exam. As a result of this the coverage amount for all non med life insurance plans is usually capped at a certain amount. For American National that amount is at an average for a no exam policy at $250,000 for a 10 to 20 year term.  When it comes to cost this product is fairly competitive on the market depending on certain factors. If you would like to see how it stacks up in cost comparison, you can compare no medical exam life insurance quotes here for free.

In Comparison to Competitors

As far as the application process all no exam carriers are pretty uniform throughout. The underwriting speed is where most companies like Sagicor, National Life and Fidelity beat American National as they often are able to provide same day to three day approval times. Where American National wins is the flexibility. It is easier to get approved with certain risks than the typical no exam polices. If you are fairly healthy however and are looking for more coverage companies like Sagicor and Assurity offer a bigger cap on life insurance coverage. Usually between $350,000 to $399,999 in death benefit amount.

The Verdict

If you are looking to add some coverage to an already existing life insurance but don’t want to go through the hassle of taking a medical exam than American National would be a great option. If you are looking for speedier coverage or higher caps i would do a little shopping with the competitors. Overall its a great product that offers lenient underwriting guidelines for those shopping in the non med life insurance market.
