The police were called about a fight between two men but while attempting to arrest one of the men, Anthony J. Hopkins, 27, he fled the scene. He was found inside a basement crawl space and the policemen sent in a K-9 officer to force the man out.
Once Hopkins came out he turned to the arresting officer and spit blood onto his face and into his mouth and then said, “F-uck you, I hope you die.” As the officer continued to lead Hopkins up the steps from the basement, Hopkins started struggling causing them to both fall down the stairs but eventually the officers managed to get him out of the basement.
Once close to the patrol car, Hopkins spit more blood onto the back of it as he said, “You know I have Hep C.” He then told the arresting officer, “I hope you get Hep C and give it to your wife and kids. Once I get out of here I’m going to kill you and your family…”
When tested Hopkins blood alcohol level was 0.16 which is twice the legal limit to drive in Indiana according to Indy Channel, but it wasn’t confirmed if he actually has Hepatitis C.
Hopkins has been charged with two felonies, one being battery by bodily waste and intimidation and two misdemeanor charges of resisting law enforcement and disorderly conduct. He is being held on a $21,500 bond and is due to appear in court on July 15.
Apparently this man is not the only criminal that has been arrested for spitting at officers in the country though. In 2012 in Ohio a 27 year old woman, Tiffany Pocock bashed her head on a police unit’s window and the turned around and the apparently spit blood in an officer’s face.
Kelsey Smith, a 29 year old Florida ma, did a similar thing about a month later. He bashed his face against a police car roof and then spit blood at the cop.
Who says a cop’s job isn’t dangerous? They risk their lives just attempting to arrest someone for a simple fight. This is crazy. I hate the thought of any officer of the law catching such a horrible disease simply for doing their duty to try to keep the peace these days. God please keep our law enforcement officers safe as they try to keep us protected!
