An Amber Alert was issued one week ago for 14 year old Lacey Dewent, from Albuquerque, New Mexico after she left home for school but never showed up for class. Authorities believe that she could have been taken by a 26 year old man that she met on the internet, Robert Butler. It has been reported that Butler had listed himself as being only 19 on at least one social media websites.
According to the girl’s mother, Jessica Dewent, Butler had been caught in Lacey’s bedroom which the police was called about. Butler was apparently arrested and charged with child solicitation for his relationship with Lacey. The arrest didn’t seem to stop Butler from pursuing the girl though.
Jessica Dewent said her daughter was a typical 14 year old girl that was concerned about her looks, friends and boys. Jessica said, “She was worried about everything that a teenage girl shouldn’t be worried about and this guy came along on the internet and told her all the right things. She’s just caring and very loving and sees the best in everybody and every situation so, I think that’s part of what got her into this situation.”
Jessica went on to say, “The more and more I know, the more I’m scared. I want my daughter home, I want her away from this man.”
Lacey has been described as being a white female with brown hair and hazel eyes. She is about 5 ft. 4 in. tall and she weighs about 145 pounds.
The police think the two may be heading to either Florida or perhaps New Jersey. The might be traveling in a blue Subaru XV Cross Trek or similar vehicle.
U.S. Marshals have taken over the search for Lacey and investigators are hopeful that they will find her. If anyone has any information on the whereabouts of Lacey Dewent they are asked to please call 505-768-2450 or 1-800-765-8273.
I pray they find this young girl. She is too young to be on her own with a 26 year old man.
Update: The father and grandmother of Lacey Dewent say that she was found safe Thursday. Butler is now in custody with the U.S. Marshals Service, he is awaiting extradition back to New Mexico. He has been charged with child solicitation via electronic device and other charges.
