A little extra information..

1) The girl was barfined.. Yes, bought from the bar for the night.. Call it what you will, I'm sure you understand.

2) The bar where they barfined the girl is known among the expats as a setup bar. The bar works with the unsavory elements of the police and they grab foreigners and take them to jail solely so that they can ask for bribes. No crime necessary!

The difference is that these were Marines and they decided to make something political out of it. If they were just your average expats, $100 bribe and they would have been let go.

After stunts like this, and the base closings and all the other ways that the Philippines tries to screw the foreigners, and particularly Americans to satisfy their "Post-Colonial Syndrome," I would hope that America and all other countries that are victims of this corrupt governent would cut of ALL aid and let the Philippine Government "sink or swim." Maybe, if these corrupt politicians lost their gravy train of foreign aid (and maybe their 10 year US visas) they would change their tune. And maybe, just maybe, if the average filipinos started to sink, they would clean their own house and vote out the criminals that they regularly re-elect.
