January 18 an Amber Alert was issued in Missouri for 10 year old Hailey Owens when witnesses reported seeing the young girl being lured by a man in a pickup truck and then he grabbed her and took off. Hailey was walking home from a friend’s house in Springfield, Mo. when she was abducted.
During a search for the girl witnesses described the truck that was seen and a license plate number was given leading the police to the home of 45 year old Craig Michael Wood. While searching the home where Wood lives, the police found the body of the child in the basement stuffed into trash bags and plastic containers. Apparently little Hailey was shot in the back of the head and she had ligature marks on her wrists which lead the investigators to believing that she had been tied up. An autopsy is pending.
After an arraignment on Friday morning, Public Defender, Chris Hartley made a statement saying that Wood plans to contest the charges of first degree murder, kidnapping and armed criminal action in death of the 10 year old girl. During the arraignment Wood appeared on video from the green County Jail and only said a few words as he answered the judge’s questions. Hailey’s parents, her older brother and five other family members were also in the courtroom.
I do hope this man gets what he deserves and justice will be served for Hailey. Of course it would be better if she was still alive but since that is not the case, I pray she will get the justice that she deserves. My thoughts and prayers are with her family now.
