Another child is now missing in Florida that was last seen playing in the yard with her friends in Little Haiti around 4:00 pm Friday at 36 NE 64th Terrace. According to the police report her friends went inside and left Shaniya outside playing and when they came back she was gone but her tricycle was still there.
The last time she was seen Shaniya Wendy Jacques-Louis was wearing a blue and black skirt, purple shorts, purple shoes, knee high black socks and her hair was in braids with blue bows. She is a black female that is about 3’6” tall and she has brown eyes. She weighs about 30 pounds. Her parents told the police that their daughter was usually very quiet and never had a tendency to wander off, in fact she usually knew not to leave the yard.
Miami Police Officer Frederica Burden said, “The family is a little anxious, which is to be expected. Our department, the units are out here are keeping hopeful that we do find the missing female.”
The parents claim they don’t know of any family, friends or acquaintances who may have taken her. Vacant lots and abandoned homes in the area are being searched and a bloodhound is being used to try and pick up her scent.
Anyone that has any information at all that could be used in finding this child, please call the Miami Police Department at 305-579-6630.
This case brings back memories for two other missing children cases I worked on in Florida that have not been solved yet.
One was Adji Desir from Immokalee Florida. Adji was visiting his grandmother and was outside playing in the front yard when he was last seen on January 10, 2009. The police have never found little Adji. He was 6 years old when he disappeared without a trace. I still pray to this day that someone will finally come up with a solid lead as to what happened to this little boy.
The other case still unsolved was the HaLeigh Cummings case. HaLeigh who was 5 years old at the time, was reported missing on January 10, 2009. Her then babysitter, Misty Croslin claims when she woke up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom she found the kitchen light on and the back door slightly opened. When she went back to the bedroom where HaLeigh was sleeping she was gone. Lots of searches and lots of accusations not to mention fights occurred since then but none of which brought Little HaLeigh home. Some feel HaLeigh is gone but some just can’t let go of the hope that she is still out there somewhere.
I do hope little Shaniya will be found and not be placed in the cold case files. No child deserves that. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and I pray that God watches over her while she is gone.
UPDATE: The Missing Child Alert issued for Shaniya Wendy Jacques-Louis by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement has been canceled this morning.
The girl has been found safe and reunited with her family. Thank God!
