News Item:
Man, 85, charged with kidnapping wife

Here’s the story –

An 85 year old man had cared for his same aged wife as long as he could.  Then she was placed in a nursing home.  At some point after that, he apparently decided he didn’t like her being there, so he picked her up and took her to Florida.

The couple lived there together for nearly a year before authorities found out where the missing woman was.  After being ‘rescued’, she is receiving full time care again, not in a nursing home, but in her own home instead.

This could have been a happy ending, with both husband and wife at home, both receiving the care they require.  It didn’t work out that way though.  Instead of being with his wife, the old man is in jail, on a kidnapping charge.

It seems an over-zealous prosecutor is holding the case to the letter of the law, alleging his only concern is for the ‘victim’.  Meanwhile, the victim’s husband sits behind bars, facing life in prison.  I know this is a stretch, but maybe, just maybe, this could have been handled in a better way.
