Angelina Jolie says it’s more important to be tied to her children and not a man. That’s why she’s now publicly saying she has no plans to marry her boyfriend, Brad Pitt.

“We’ve both been married before, so it’s not marriage that necessarily kept some people together,” Jolie said in an interview with Reuters News Service. “We are legally bound to our children, not to each other, and I think that’s the most important thing.”

Jolie said she never intended to ruin Pitt’s marriage to actress Jennifer Aniston, who starred in the sitcom “Friends”. She told Reuters that she and Pitt developed a “deep, emotional bond” while filming the movie “Mr. and Mrs. Smith”, though Jolie says she knew Aniston was Pitt’s best friend.

“I think we were both the last two people who were looking for a relationship,” she said. “Because of the film we ended up being brought together to do all these crazy things and I think we found this strange friendship and partnership that kind of just suddenly happened.”

According to Hollywood.com, Jolie wants to have a private meeting with Aniston to tell her nothing developed between Jolie and Pitt until after his marriage to Aniston began to crumble. Pitt and Aniston separated in January 2005, and Pitt was photographed on a vacation with Jolie five months later. Pitt and Jolie have three children: Maddox and Zahara, who are adopted; and their biological daughter, Shiloh Nouvel.
