Mostly I talk to authors, that while I like their book, I operate from a position of weakness. People know things that I don’t know! It is rare that I as the Host know as much about the subject. Sure I do the research, but I always know that the writer knows more than I do.

So let me introduce Jon Hansen. Our interview was indeed a journey down memory lane. Your Show Will Go Live In 5 Seconds is a direct quote about Blog Talk Radio. At the 5 second mark you get a nice English lady give you the 5 second countdown, I refer to it as the NASA countdown.

Once you are on air. What do you do?  Actually being on air is the simple part, the heavy lifting occurs Off Air. By my math, the pair of us stumbled upon Blog Talk Radio at around the same time, some 5 years ago.

As Jon so eloquently puts it..

The only thing I had hosted before was the occasional dinner party

However, Jon and I share a nasty piece of DNA, we see a target, and ignoring common sense we go for it. The pair of us jumped into the deep end of BTR and had to learn to swim the ‘radio’ stroke with no help.

The good news is that in these more enlightened times there are better alternatives than the Jon and Simon approach.

I guess what surprised me most about Your Show Will Go Live In 5 Seconds is how much we are in agreement. Four days ago the name Jon Hansen was not on my radar. Yes I had seen a few comments he had posted on a help forum for BTR, but other than that, I knew nothing about the gentleman.

At under 150 pages Your Show Will Go Live in 5 Seconds is hardly a tough read. It is compact and yet very clear on what a host on Blog Talk Radio should do to create a radio presence.

If you missed the live program that (in retrospect) I should have titled it something more creative than I did, all is not lost.  You can listen to the discussion here.

Do you want to be the next big thing on radio? Or maybe you just want to chat with your friends about subjects that interest you. Either way, Jon Hansen and Your Show Will Go Live in 5 Seconds is a worthy read.

Happy broadcasting
