Most fans include this as one of Hammer's best. I am inclined to agree. Along with the first film, 'Dracula' (or 'Horror of Dracula' to Americans), 'Dracula Has Risen From The Grave' and 'Curse of The Werewolf', this film is amongst the most atmospheric and folkloric. It also has some of the best set design (the interior of the castle is amazing; better than poor old Dracula's), the acting solid, and the horror set pieces are amazing. It is Van Helsing's finest hour, arguably, after his defeat of Dracula in the film before. But the film would be good if Van Helsing was replaced by another protagonist (possibly played by the likes of Clifford Evans or Andrew Keir).

I'd give it at least four out of five.
