This is the fourth series of this acclaimed British mystery. An upstanding detective takes on a dangerous world in 1960’s England. George Gently Series 4 is now going to be available on DVD and on Blu-ray. We have Martin Shaw back in the lead role of Inspector George Gently from London now working in the North East of England with two feature length episodes based on the long running series of novels by Alan Hunter plus a feature bonus of behind the scenes.

This corner of the country is just starting to experience the social changes sweeping the rest of 1960s Britain, but the former Scotland Yard detective finds that crime occurs here the same as anywhere else. Chief Inspector George Gently is passionate with his work and he likes to go by the book in all of his investigations.

These two discs set comes with two feature length episodes:

Episode One: Gently Upside Down – Gently along with his side kick, Bacchus (Lee Ingleby) are investigating the case of a missing school girl whose body was found in a shallow grave in Pinnock Woods. There is a list of suspects including the girl’s father who has proven to be a violent man. As the investigation goes on, Gently finds out that the teen pop rock star was actually pregnant.

Episode Two: Goodbye China – The death of Gently’s friend and ex-snout China (Tony Rohr), has Gently along with Bacchus left to investigate. Was it an accident or was it murder? Two teen brothers rob the son of Supt. Shepherd and they suddenly disappear the day after China died. Is there a connection there?

There is a great cast in this series including Neil Pearson, Christine Bottomley, Lucy Akhurst, Shaun Prendergast, Neil Morrissey and Louise Delemere. With the bonus extras you have cast filmographies, Alan Hunter Biography and Photo Gallery.

George Gently, Series 4 on DVD comes with two discs and a single disc with Blu-ray. The approximate running time is totaled to about 178 minutes.
