Doc Martin: Series 5 is publicly aired on TV in the United States but luckily it is now available on DVD. Martin Clunes stars in the role as the misanthropic, socially maladjusted Doctor Martin Ellingham who is forced to relocate to a rustic seaside village, where he clashes with the small towns eccentric citizens right off the bat. The series is a huge success in the U.K. with 10 million viewers and it has gained momentum on public TV, in fact it is the highest rated program on KCET/Los Angeles. A sixth season of the series will begin production in 2013.

In this series Doc Martin being a new father hasn’t made him any softer. Just as he is ready to take on a new position in London, certain changes seem to be conspiring to keep the good doctor in Portwenn. The infant son he fathers with Louisa needs a name. His replacement at work doesn’t seem to be ready and able to do the job. And he receives some devastating news.

Doc Martin finds himself stuck in the Cornish village with its quirky inhabitants whether he likes it or not. Fortunately though, most of the people have grudgingly grown rather fond of the grumpy Doc.

The doctor seems to have mastered his fear of blood but he still has no idea how to manage his own life. He goes with sleepless nights, has an aunt that has some issues and a flaky new receptionist. Louisa’s mom in a hippie and he has to deal with the usual village dramas. Learning to cope with all of it seems to be a challenge.

Doc Martin: Series 5 was filmed in the idyllic Cornwall village of Port Isaac and it won the best TV Comedy Drama at the British Comedy Awards.
