As if the people don’t have enough to worry about, now CNN is reporting that there could possibly be someone out there posing as a police officer pulling drivers over on Mississippi Highways and then shooting them dead.

There have been two known cases just this month where drivers were found in their cars dead on the side of the roads.

The first case was on May 8, 2012 about 1:30 a.m. when a Nebraska man, Thomas Schlender, who was 74 years old, was found inside his car in the median of southbound Interstate 55 near Pope Ms. Apparently he had been shot to death.

Then on Friday, May 11, 1012 another dead person, Lori Anne Carswell, who was 48 years old, of Hernando, Ms. was found dead outside of her car on the shoulder of Highway 713, just north off Ms. Hwy. 3 around 2:15 a.m. She apparently was on her way home after work at the Fitz Casino.

The report is that the two incidents were about 55 miles apart. The MBI Director Lt. Col. Lyle Waggoner said, “There are some similarities between the two incidents, mainly the fact that they happened alongside a Mississippi Hwy.”

“The concern is that someone is posing as a law enforcement officer and that is how these vehicles end up on the side of the road,” Waggoner said.

The police are trying to get the word out to citizens to be careful if they are pulled over and feel uneasy. In the state of Mississippi drivers are permitted by law to drive to a well lit, crowded place before stopping if an officer attempts to pull them over. They are also advising any driver to dial 911 to verify that there is an officer trying to pull them over.

Please beware of this in case you are being pulled over by the police. Don’t take any risks and be very careful. It is better to be safe than sorry.
