The one thing that I can honestly say about life, is that it never fails to amaze me. Strangers are just friends that you have yet to meet. A case in point is Jack N. Young, the name was not one that I recognized. But a good friend of mine, author Sam Moffie told me that Jack N. Young was a pretty interesting guy. Sam was right! Jack Young is one of the most interesting people I know, and I know a pretty eclectic bunch of people!
Jack N. Young is 85 years old and has more ‘piss and vinegar’ than a 20 year old. He is now retired, but he has some magic stories to tell about his younger days. How many Hollywood stuntmen do you know? Jack Young became one of the ‘go to’ stuntmen in the late 40’s, 50’s and into the 60’s. Mostly he deviled in the world of Westerns, even though he admits:
I don’t much like horses
When I asked him about this, he revealed a great secret. During WWII he was a Navy Frogman, and had kept his Frogman Suit. This could be worn under the usual Cowboy attire without being noticed. This saved a few scratches scrapes and other problems. But this trick was harder to pull off in regular clothes.
Somewhere early in his career he moved from being plain Jack Young to Blackjack Young, but that is a story for another day, but I will tease you, it has nothing whatsoever to do with the casino game.
I have loved exploring the world of Blackjack Young, but try as hard as I might, I cannot get him to sit down and write a book. But I refuse to give up! Blackjack has screwed up. I am now in touch with his son Cody Young. Cody created a wonderful short documentary about his father.
Ok Jack, now you have a problem, there are two of us on your tail! You can run, but you can’t hide!
