These days there is an App for almost everything. So it really should not have come as a great surprise that there is a web site that tracks the grim stats of sexual abuse in our school system.

If www.schoolteachernews.com is to be believed, and I have no reason not to, there are over 400 cases of sexual abuse prosecuted in the US each year. These are not school boys and school girls that just don’t like the teacher, these are hard core legal issues.

The stats are interesting:

2010 – 411 cases

2009 – 464

2008 – 478

One way of viewing these numbers is that they are trending down. And certainly many of these cases involved a single victim. So these numbers look OK? Right?

NO these numbers do not look ok, they suck! There are few states that have a clean record, actually none! You drop your child off at school, and you expect the school to look after your child. It is not an unreasonable expectation, at least I do not think so.

A parent has to put their trust in teachers. So what is going on here? Pedophilia the new career choice?

The Boy Scouts played this game, and certainly the Catholic church went through a very similar debacle, so I guess that it is no surprise that the education system was not far behind. It is disturbing, I know people involved with the Boy Scouts that would lay their lives down rather than harm a child, I know many people of the Catholic faith that I would place ultimate trust in. And I  certainly know more than a few folks in the Education system. They have worked hard to get where they are, they spend their own money when the school budget runs out, they are underpaid and often under appreciated.

It is time to put a stop to serial abusers, wherever they may be. Please join us on Barling & Barrett Sunday Feb/19 at 4pm eastern, the team will be talking about this issue. Listen here live.
