A 13 year old student in Australia was failed in one of her classes after she refused to take part in an assignment on the basis of moral and religious beliefs. The students in the class were asked to take part in an assignment where they were to imagine living as a heterosexual among a mostly homosexual colony on the moon. Also part of the assignment was to take part in discussions about where they felt homosexuality came from. A spokesman from Education Queensland said that the assignment was meant to “encourage students to think about diversity, culture and belief systems,” but instead it outraged her mother, Christian groups and the State Opposition who want an investigation. They believe that the assignment and curriculum was completely inappropriate.
