The Casey Anthony story is one that just will not go away. Lets face it, she got away with murder! Sure, we can argue about the nits and grits, but the simple fact is she walked free.
Did the prosecution team ‘over charge’? That is easy to look at in hindsight, but I doubt that anyone on the prosecution team would fess up to committing such stupidity. Prosecutor Jeff Ashton is the poster child in this case. He retired just a couple of days after losing, sulked, and then wrote (or more likely had a ghost writer) write a book. Books are tricky beasts. Imperfect Justice is selling OK, but it is interesting to note that Amazon has slashed the purchase price from $26.99 to a more user friendly $13.49. If math is not your strong suit, that is half price.
Hmm, you have to wonder about the money dynamics at work here. I work with enough authors to understand this. At a price point of $13.49 I can only imagine how he will spend his $20 check from the publisher!
Jeff Ashton may have retired, but he is hardly out of the game. His next quest is to run for office as State Attorney. This might be a bit of an uphill battle. Who is going to vote for the guy that let the tot killer walk free?
Lets face it, this is exactly what you do not need from a prosecutor during closing arguments!
Jose Baez seems to also be on a pointless quest. The much rumored deal with Telemundo does not appear to be on the table. In fact Jose is looking at a bit of an issue. It is being claimed that he has lost his meal ticket, even Casey can no longer stand him. Of course there are two sides to the story. If there is truth in the rumor that Casey wanted $750,000 for an interview, well I understand his problem. The interview is worth a Big Mac, Fries, and regular soft drink (at best). So Jose seems to be on the outs.

Not even the intrepid Geraldo Rivera seems to be supporting Jose these days.
Hey remember the gal that sat day after day in court at Casey’s side? Consoling her, supporting her? Her name was Dorothy Sims. In a particularly interesting close encounter with the press, Ms Sims declared that she would be happy to leave her kids with Casey Anthony as the babysitter.
How come Ms Sims has filed papers to withdraw as Casey’s representative?
Casey Anthony seems to be losing friends faster than you can say MY COMPUTER WAS HACKED.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI do read you Simon and Jan but it seems to bother me when you don’t support Jeff Ashton. I get what you are saying but it really is still a hard thing for me to swallow. Of course I will still read and follow you.
ummm… for the record I personally like Jeff Ashton.

I like Jeff Ashton, but lets face it, his case against Casey went south. He has one of the sharpest minds on the planet, but he could not bring Casey into the red zone and score a touchdown. He is head and shoulders above the Baez mob, but it still is a fact that tot killer mom walked.
Ashton and his warped sense of humor during this trial was very unprofessional and disappointing IMO. How could anyone find one word of this entire story or trial amusing? Appalling and disgusting, sad or infuriating yes, but humorous? Laughable? This is not the way I want my portion of “The people” to be represented.
Then add the “mistake” by his experts… 80 searches for chloroform where there was really only one according to Ashton himself, in his latest interviews. That kind of “mistake” is inexcusable in a case like this, IMO. Then we have the latest from “Dr G” who states she based her entire opinion of Homicide on the coverage she heard prior to Caylee’s remains being found, on Casey’s actions. Admitting there was no evidence to prove murder let alone murder 1. Other than how Casey acted and how Casey’s body was disposed of they did not have much else. Ashton knew what Dr G had as evidence. She was his main support for murder but she had no evidence to give. No cause of death, no drugs in the child’s system, nothing but opinions based on Casey’s actions and lies. Did Ashton over charge? Well Ashton knew he was counting on public outrage and emotion without enough physical evidence to back it up. Did he count too much on public opinion and human emotion? IMO Ashton could have won child neglect, child endangering, and a few other charges that there was strong evidence for but this man with an ego bigger than a house, went for the hardest to win without hard evidence (which is what our legal system should require in cases like this). Ashton let Casey off the hook completely IMO when he could have put her away for at least several years. Then he wrote a book. Oh wait he wrote the book before the case was done and it was titled “imperfect justice”? How was that the title of a book about a case that had an unknown outcome at the time the book was written? Imperfect justice? What if the jurors would have found her guilty? How did Ashton know justice would be “imperfect” in this case before the verdict was read? This trial brings up more questions than it answered IMO. But we know who thus far has tried to profit from Caylee’s death. Ashton is right there with the rest IMO Meanwhile Caylee was not given any justice at all.
Imperfect justice and imperfect prosecution IMO
I like Jeff Ashton. I feel like the prosecution tought the video evidence would speak for itself along with the experts. It only takes one search for how to make homemade chloroform, hit print wahla no other searches needed. Then you have Vass who spoke of the resin on the tire well in the trunk. He tested that resin and stated on the stand that the compounds were that of what you would make homemade chloroform from. I though how did that get on the tire well. Could it be because she poured the solution into the trunk? Then you have Casey saying in the video that Zenaida had a key to her parents home and could go in and get anything for Caylee. My take on this comment was that Casey KNEW that items from the hme would be found at the crime scene. There were Tony and his friends that had only met Casey and Caylee together two or three times tops. Then there was the guy and that sent Casey the pic WIN HER OVER WITH CHLOROFORM, he said he had nevr seen Casey discipline Caylee unless it was time for Caylee to go to sleep. Casey had trouble getting Caylee to go to bed. There was a side bar and this issue was not addressed. Casey herself told detectives in the audio at Universal that she could leave Caylee for a few days and Caylee was like Hi Mommy but if it had been her mother Cindy Anthony Caylee would have been upset at not seeing her. IMO this tels who Caylee had a strong bond with.
hen in Baezs closing arguement he told the Jury “charge her (Casey) with illegal disposal of a body) Throughout the trial he told the jury George disposed of Caylee and even brought in how he taught his family to dispose of the family pets, so why tell the jury to charge his client? IMO it is because he knew she did it. Then you ask yourself how did Casey do it. Did she give her a piggy back ride? A short trip in the little red wagon OR n the trunk of her car that smelled of human decompositon!!! My guess and imo it was the trunk. Then you have that so wonderful defense team who hired Timothy Huntington ( I believe thiswas his name) The insect expert. They hired him on December 11th,2008 the same exact day littl Caylees remains were found. Ashton even had him repet this info for the jury hoping they would catch on.
IMO at minimum Casey should have ben charged with the manslaughter charge. The was enugh evidence imo for a dry bones case to bring judgement against Casey for the death of her daughter.
Casey is Casey, she only cares about herself and what she can get. Casey wants the limelight. No wonder her old defense team is jumping ship they know they are aboard the next TITANIC!!!!! JMO
Thank you Simon and Jan.
I forgot too mention that when they hired Timothy Huntington it was not confirmed that the little decomposed body was that of Caylee Marie Anthony. jmo
