Most people will not recognize the name John Swinton. At least not yet.

The man I am talking about is not to be confused with the 19th century British painter John Swinton Spooner. No, John is still very much alive although he is a painter -  a very original Canadian folk artist. Not only is John’s work strikingly original, but it is also notably affordable. And, as if that were not enough, his work, in my opinion, is a very sound investment. Alright, so perhaps art is never a ‘very sound’ investment, but as far as art goes, especially contemporary Canadian folk art, this stuff is as good as gold.

Easily found on ebay, John’s work is unpretentious, solidly crafted (often in his own hand-made frames) and painted with blindingly obvious artistic talent and playful original vision. To make a good deal even better, John’s art is often found for $20-100 at the auctions final moments. Where else can you find original Canadian folk art by an established (in all the right ways) artist for the price of a poster? This is not the kind of original ‘hand painted’ art that comes from China by ‘artist unknown’. No, John’s pieces are actually original, one-of-a-kind works of art by a real Saskatchewan born artist. There simply is no better deal on the contemporary market in my humble opinion. And, the time to invest in John’s work is now, as I predict there will be a sharp rise in his prices in the very near future. Demand for his work is already growing as the internet begins to buzz with comments from collectors all over the world about the obvious value in collecting his work. In fact, I am off to search out another brilliant Swinton for my collection right now!
