A Deltona Florida woman, Susan Bryan, 27, tried to outrun the police Sunday when they tried to stop her while driving eastbound on Fort Smith Boulevard. She took side streets and ran stops signs on two occasions and then headed westbound on Fort Smith.
The officer chasing her turned his lights off and the sirens and stopped following the woman but later as a deputy was setting out stop sticks at the intersection of Normandy Boulevard and Monterrey Drive, Bryan hit the brakes to avoid damage to her tires. Then she backed up and hit a deputy’s car but still managed to escape. She was later found walking with two small boys and a little girl, all of which were in the van with Bryan while she was trying to outrun the police.
The children, ages 8, 5 and 3, were all three infested with head lice. The little girl has an untreated skin infection and an open wound close to her neck. One of the boys seemed to be developing a skin infection as well.
Bryan was arrested and charged with three counts of child neglect without great harm, child abuse without great harm, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, fleeing and eluding and driving with a suspended license.
Deputies say that Bryan said she knew her license was suspended, at least 6 times and that she took off from them thinking she could get away. After her arrest she asked the officers to let her father take the children but since he apparently has an extensive criminal background himself so the Department of Children and Families was called in.
Hopefully someone will take the time with these three children and get rid of the lice. They must be miserable. I pray all three will be fine.
