I don’t tend to mess in the ‘manure lagoons’ of politics, it is a pointless, smelly, and destructive subject. There are few ‘roses’ to be sniffed. Politics used to be easy. You voted for the guy that was least likely to create havoc. That notion has worked for many decades. It is not a question of who is better, it is a question of who is less worse.

A part of the political landscape that has been with us since this country was founded has been the separation between State and Church.  Of course just because it is the law of the land does not mean that it is followed.

I dislike it when either side decides to attack the other. I ask why bother?

I have friends from many races, creeds and color. There are good and bad in all people. But you should never paint an entire society with a singe brush.

For the first time ever, I am going to publish a press release. I have not redacted anything. But this is Bull Shit!

WASHINGTON: July 25, 2011 – Right-Wing extremists are leading a sustained attack against American Muslims, attempting to prevent them from freely practicing their religion, curtail their political rights, and in some cases, compel their deportation, according to a new report by People For the American Way (PFAW).

The report lays out how the Right Wing is using a set of specific strategies to stir up destructive fears, and as a result are putting our fundamental tradition of equality and justice at risk. The report, The Right Wing Playbook on Anti-Muslim Extremism , identifies the scare tactics used by the Right Wing to conjure up anti-Muslim sentiment in the United States and outlines some ways that concerned Americans can push back against anti-Muslim extremism.

“Right-wing activists, elected officials and even some presidential candidates have launched an overt assault on American Muslims, using a religious minority as a scapegoat for any number of national fears and frustrations,” said Michael Keegan, President of People For the American Way. “In doing so, they compromise some of our dearest national values. Anti-Muslim extremists and the political leaders who repeat their talking points are spreading baseless and destructive fears and explicitly disregarding the Constitution’s guarantee of freedom of religion and equal treatment under the law.”

The report discusses eight strategies employed by anti-Muslim activists to cast doubt on the validity of Islam as a religion and the integrity of American Muslims in order to justify prejudice and illegal discrimination:

1. Framing American Muslims as a threat to America

2. Twisting statistics and use fake research to “prove” the Muslim threat

3. Inventing the danger of “creeping Sharia”

4. Justifying taking away freedoms and liberties from Muslims in order to “defend liberty”

5. Denying the validity of Islam as a religion

6. Arguing that Muslims have no First Amendment rights under the Constitution

7. Linking anti-Muslim prejudice to anti-Obama rhetoric

8. Slandering progressives and non-Christians as unholy and anti-American

What do you all think about this? I see little validity in these claims. State and Religion are very different things.
