We will be running our regular radio program at 4pm eastern on Sunday June/12. I am still waiting for confirmation from a couple of our regular panel members, but it looks like most of the crew will be in attendance.
It has been another interesting week in the trial. The prosecution have entered the ‘science’ phase of their presentation. Much of the ‘expert’ testimony has been riveting and compelling.
For months we have heard defense lead Jose Baez wax lyrical on the subject of this evidence, It is Junk Science he says. Science is bunk!
This week presented Jose Baez with the opportunity to explain exactly what was wrong with the science. I am not sure that he managed to convince anyone of his theory. In fact by his stepping on the occasional ‘land mine’ he seemed to bolster the prosecution case. Permitting Dr. G to open the drowning door certainly rained on the defenses parade. The sealed can of ‘death stink’ was a land mine that he seemed bound and determined to step on. Luckily cooler heads prevailed and Jose Baez remains with both legs still attached.
Dealing with Expert Witnesses is a challenge at the best of times, If you are not careful they will eat you alive! And that very much is what happened in the trial this week.
Another side show was Casey Anthony herself. Was she sick? Jan has an interesting article on that, you can read it here.
One thing that has been bothering Jan, myself, and some others that are following the trial is Casey Anthony’s demeanor. She has a split personality, one for when the jury is present and a completely different one when they are not. Obviously the jury are not aware of this, but Judge Belvin Perry is no fool, you can bet that he is watching this with interest.
The jury themselves are also not fools. I had a conversation with panel member and veteran trial lawyer Mannie Barling on this subject earlier today. Most of the jury tend to be older men and women that are financially secure. You can infer much into this simple statement. They are worldly wise, and intelligent. The constant “we object” from the defense team, and the by now expected response of “Overruled” by Judge Perry has not gone unnoticed. Mannie ended his law lecture to me with “Jury’s are not as stupid as you thinkâ€!
This afternoon I also had an opportunity to talk with panelist Dave Knechel, he is the unique position of being part of the press corp with access to the court room. He had some interesting observations and I am sure that he will be sharing them with the listeners tomorrow.
A call to the always colorful William Cobra Stuabs was also illuminating. To some people his theories are from the ‘far side’, but, he more often than not actually he is quite close to the mark. There is a Pandoras Box waiting to be opened in this trial. I think the prosecution are smart enough to avoid it, however I am certain that the defense will walk right into it with their eyes wide shut!
Join us tomorrow at 4pm eastern to hear what everyone has to say. The link is here.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackHi, I am in NC and I don’t think I can pick your station up. Sure wish I could. I have lots to say. One thing is Casey certainly does have a different look than even two weeks ago. She now realized I think her lies are not going to get her out of this and I think until this week she truly thought she was going to walk right out of the court room free. She is counting on juror # 4 from what I have read and heard she rolls her eyes at most of what the state has to say and looks at Casey to let her know. Now I am thinking maybe she is understanding the truth. Let’s sure pray she does or there is the hung jury. I think everyday Casey is looking more and more like a Planet of the Ape’s person. Weird, but her face appears to be longer and her gin very long and she droops it like she is mad as hell. Not like she’s sad but mad, mean.devil looking.
Now will you do me a favor. I can’t seem to get on sites where anyone answers back anything. But I want to make a plea that Jeff Ashton be the one to give the closing argument. Please see if you can get something going on that topic. Maybe on your radio site that I can’t get. But anyway, my concern is if Linda does it. She is very cold, rude almost, and arrogant acting. She has done a good job on the evidence but it’s her personality that I am worried about with the jurors. I know this is not a personality contest, but it does matter that the jurors like you. I think they may like Jose. He is polite, says good morning always to them and to the Judge as well as to the State. Linda is only polite to the Judge. I thought yesterday (Saturday) she did something very arrogant right in front of the jury. Jose had to come up to her witness to get the numbers off of the evidences and she just acted like he wasn’t there and kept doing her thing. That in my opinon was disrespectful to anyone. Even Jose didn’t deserve that. All she had to do before calling that witness up to the stand was have Jose come up and look at the evidence on the table and get any informatin he needed. I am in no way a fan of Jose but the way she did that was rude and I don’t think it went unnoticed by the jury or the judge. I just don’t thik she should be the one to give the final argument. She doesn’t have the kind of voice needed for that and she certainly doesn’t have the passion and personality needed to delivery that knock out speech. She’s no Johnny Cockran for sure. Jeff Ashton can do it with passion and I pray he is the one to do it. Or even the other attorney. Can’t remember his name but I like him. He’s not as good as Ashton but good. This is not to say Linda isn’t a good attorney because she is and has done her homework but again I feel like it will be a HUGE mistake if they allow her to make the closing statement. Remember she made the opening one. And this is her case. So, if she wants to, then she probably will not realizing how she comes across or at least she does that way to me. If you will, can you mention this so we can get something going about this before it’s to late and she gives the speech. I don’t think she should be offended but just realize that they are there to win and that she is not the person to make that serious last statement to the jury before they go make their decision. Linda in my opinon, doesn’t connect with this case. For instances, Dr.G. connected, she make me feel like it was her child she was speaking about and I do believe she won the case for the State along with the jury seeing the skelton pic’s of little Caylee’s body and the duct tape and plastic bags. Dr G. just made you realize if it was an accident you would have called for help. Most people never want to believe the person is really dead so they are praying for a chance to save them and she was right to say that was the first sign something was being hid when EMT wasn’t called immediately. Thanks for this time to give my opinon and I hope to hear from anyone about this opinon of mine and about Linda from the State Attorney’s office. Hope this topic gets on the radio show even if I can’t hear it. I am going to try. I want justice for little Caylee and any help to ensure that is appreciated by everyone I feel sure. Linda is not the person to give that closeing argument and I pray she realizes that herself and begs Jeff ashton to give it. Maybe with a little help where she hears others opinon about this she will have Mr Ashton give it and that she want be upset. I don’t want to hurt her feelings but again she is not the one. Thanks again.
Simon to my surprise I was able to get on your radio station from the link you have. Thanks so much. Don’t know if I can call in or not but please speak about what I have said above about who should give the State’s closing argument. Hope some people in Orlando hear this and tell Linda to let Jeff Ashton give that closing argument. Thanks. so happy I found you and your wife.
I can’t access your station where I am daily. I’m having difficulty finding out if the identity of Caylee’s biological father is known.
