I received an email from a good friend of mine this morning. It concerned a really ugly story of child abuse. Sure the country is riveted on the the trial of Casey Anthony for the suspected murder of her then two year old daughter Caylee Anthony. What people fail to understand is just how prevalent child abuse is in our modern world.

My wife and I do our best to try and give some much needed coverage on the subject. But the sheer volume of abused and missing children is so huge that it is impossible to give every case the coverage it deserves. Jan and I get many requests for help, but we have limited resources, and we do what we can.

The Caylee Anthony story unfortunately is far from unique. Sure the trial of Casey Anthony has captured the attention of many people. In fact as I write this article we have two live video and audio feeds running covering the trial. But what makes me upset is that this single case is the one that gets all of the attention.

Read this! Tell me what you think about Vyctorya Sandoval? How could this be allowed to happen? How have we permitted our modern world to permit this kind of outrage?

The Caylee Anthony story on the TV is the one getting the attention, but she is just one of many.

Why do we see these stories? The saying goes that it takes a village to raise a child. It is a true comment. A child learns much from those around them.

I have heard it said that the problem has not changed, the numbers of missing and abused children remain the same, the difference is actually created by us living in an ‘always on’ world. The flood of information from 24/7 news sites either on TV or Cell Phones are the issue. The problem has not changed, only the number of people that hear about it.

You may not agree with me, but I will say it anyway. The problem largely has its roots in our education system. We have focused on the three ‘r’s. And forgotten everything else. Teaching social skills is as important as the three ‘r’s.

OK, I have had my rant! Sorry if it offended anyone, that was not my intention. But please look at the larger picture, Caylee Anthony is just one of many children that alas will never get to attend her Prom, she will never get married, she will never have children of her own. She will never have Grand Children.

For a moment ignore Casey Anthony, instead take a step back and think about something positive that you might do for a child in danger.
