After the Jose Baez blunder a couple of days ago, I really didn’t think that it could get much worse for the hapless defense. But it did…
Everyone wound love to see Casey Anthony take the stand, but that is a dream. It will only be in a last minute ‘Hail Mary’ play that the defense team would take this huge risk. The prosecution would have a field day. Likely the Animal Chanel would use the footage on I, Predator or Untamed and Uncut. It would be pure carnage.
The prosecution started the day sitting quietly while Jose Baez did his best to try and throw mud balls at police detective Yuri Melich. One thing is very clear, Jose Baez is not destined for a career in Major League Baseball. His pitching skills leave much to be desired.
Once Jose Baez had thrown all of the mud balls in his bucket, it was once again back again with the prosecution. Wasting no time, the prosecution started to play a series of audio and video tapes that had Casey Anthony as the star. I am assuming that they share the opinion that Casey will not take the stand, and this was the next best thing.
The tapes were damaging beyond belief. Jose Baez did everything short of challenging Judge Perry to a duel to keep them being played. But played they were. Suddenly the ‘lies’ that the prosecution had alleged took on a new life. The lies were now coming from Casey herself.
It was an OUCH day for the defense.
Of course after the jury was released for the day, the Defense once again went into high gear. They want to add a new witness (expert) and George Anthony’s medical records.
The new witness is a lady by the name of Sally Karioth. She apparently would be discussing the personal grieving process. From her bio:

It is a gift she has acquired from her varied experiences as a nurse, teacher, writer, talk show hostess and nationally renowned grief therapist. And if one sentence characterizes her speeches, it is her slogan “life is not a dress rehearsal.”
Oh and according to this web site, she only charges $5-$10k for a speaking engagement. That seems a little out of the price range that Jose Baez might be able to squeeze out of the JAC.
There is of course another way of viewing these antics. Is Baez trying to pull a fast one? Maybe the plan is to create a stink over the Grief Therapist in the hope that he can slide George Anthony’s medical records in without anyone noticing.

Jose Baez didn’t present an insanity defense but he’s doing everything in he can to convince the jury his client’s actions add up to insane – but not murderous. Gee, he must really think the jury is stupid. No amount of hinting at insanity is going to convince anyone this woman’s actions add up to a scared girl who kept a terrible secret because of unproven abuse. I think the part in the trial is when they play the jail visit tapes…the part when Casey told her dad he was the best dad and grandfather, within the safe walls of the prison during visiting hours says it all. Gushing about him as a parent, not silence or anger (both of which she quickly demonstrated when challenged).
She’s a cunning, heartless, viper. She will use anyone and anything to achieve her means…including Baez. He’ll probably end up disbarred in a few years.
IMHO, it doesn’t matter if Casey is put on the stand or not. Her position can’t get any worse. Not one bit, no matter what she says. 1500 or 2000 lies doesn’t make any difference. Seldom the public has such a good opportunity to stare a psychopathic killer in the eyes and listen to her truly insane words. Casey Anthony is obviously a very, very dangerous person. I don’t care if she is executed, commits suicide or dies a natural death in prison. The important thing is that she never ever is given the opportunity to kill again. Because given the opportunity, she will.
I think Baez’s hope was that Casey’s parents would realize the only way their daughter could get out of this was by pretending they had abused her in her childhood. When George said ‘no’ to ‘did you ever sexually abuse your ‘daughter’, Baez was just ‘ok, that’s it, we have to go for mistrial now’
Plea bargain? The state would have to be amenable to that. Unless it’s a plea to first degree murder and LWOP, I don’t see that happening.
WTF has Baez been doing for 3 years? He didn’t file a motion in limine about the jailhouse tapes, he hasn’t finished finding experts, he never subpoenaed George’s medical records. Good grief. Oh, and my teenage kid could do a better cross than Baez. Pitiful.
The defense team is so bad it worries me that she could walk! Today someone, on one of the shows, said she might get 10 to 15 years and that bothered me also. If someone like her only gets that amount of time something is very wrong.
there isn’t gona be a mistrial, judge perry has tried alot of cases and knows exactly what to to an he’s not gona let it, there isn’t gona be a plea deal, i really don’t think casey is gona amit to killing her daughter[that ain't gona happen] lol that would show baez at the lier he already has become and there goes his fake drowning down the drain an pros i doubt would give her anything in a plea deal lower then life without parole an baez isn’t gona go with it. baez messed up from day 1.lol the new witness isn’t gona get in, she works on talk shows and like jp said a grief consler is brought in after the tragedy not 3 yrs almost 4 yrs later lol
