This week on our broadcast the panel of Mannie Barling, Ashley F. Brooks and Simon Barrett were joined by special guest Dr. Francis Thicke. Francis operates a grass fed organic dairy farm in Iowa. He has huge concerns over the state of current agriculture.

Big Argi, Big Food, and Big Pharma are literally changing the landscape. The use of Genetic Engineering in crop production, the use of pesticides and herbicides, are all having an effect both on the land itself, and the crops grown.

We spent a good deal of the program discussing the role of one single company in the systematic destruction of the land, Monsanto. They seem to operate with relative impunity, and even government assistance. The organizations such as the FDA and USDA are theoretically tasked with keeping our food supply safe, yet because of the political nature of their make up are in fact little more than a mouth piece for the Big Agri and Big Pharma companies.

They have made large endowments to many universities which is also troublesome. In effect they are steering their own ‘independent’ research. Recently they paid $500,000 to the University of Iowa to establish a ‘chair’ on the subject of ‘Soy Bean Breeding’. To most people this seems like a harmless and indeed generous offer. However there is a dark side. Exact statistics are unavailable, but it is thought that Monsanto currently control over 90% of the Soy Bean market in the US. This latest move is clearly to ensure that their GMO seeds will continue to dominate. In economic terms $500,000 is loose change, cheaper than a 30 second commercial during the Super Bowl.

If you missed our live program you can listen to the recorded version here. I think you will learn a great deal.
