In unerstanding wthere there is a need to differentiate between the LTTE and Al Quieda, there is a greater need to understand the history and the activities of the organization in its entirety. There is also the much easier task of understanding the meaning of the word 'Terrorism' which would make the larger perspective much simpler for juvenile minds.

For those who have studied the two organizations, Al-Quida pales into insignificance when compared to the LTTE; the true masters of international and domestic terror.

Let me make it simpler; A 'terrosist' isn't someone who attacks a white man or a western nation. The world belongs to others too.

I just posted an article about overseas charitable funding going to terror groups in the Philippines.
The difference between a liberator/insurgent and terrorist is in tactics.
Terrorists aim at "soft" targets e.g. civilians.
Freedom fighters fight the army/government only.
Some "freedom fighters" rob and steal and kidnap and smuggle drugs.
The problem is that if you give into a group that breaks the law you end up with a corrupt government.
After all, if you are used to a lot of money from kidnapping and robbing banks, you can't make that much as a civil servant, so you end up taking bribes to supplement your salary.
But if you give into a group that kills civilians as a means to get power, you end up with a government willing to kill it's own people: e.g. Zimbabwe, Mao's China, USSR...

The very bold statement that is made by every nation including the U.S. is that LTTE are terrorists which doesn't make any sense at all. LTTE, in the history of their existence, did not pose a single threat to any country other than their homeland. They have been fighting for the freedom of tamil people in their homeland for decades and thus rules them out from terrorist activities. If what the LTTE commits is considered terrorism then the acts of the Sri Lankan government would be considered a word too little to be described by terrorism. The singhalese have been blindfolding the world's perspective ever since they came into rule. The nations needs to learn to distinguish between acts of terrorism and acts of self defence. They need to learn to distinguish between LTTE and Al-qaeda.

U.S and other nations should come out with a list of organisation which are nationalistic groups using violence and terrorist groups which are using violence.

As far as tamil tigers are concerned, it's a tamil national group which is fighting for tamileelam's independence.

In jaffna, for half a million tamil population there are 50000 Srilankan army, which means 1 out of 10 are army men. Even no body can go for toilet without their knowledge.
Economic blockade by Srilankan government has created the situation much worse.

In these kind of situations, blind policies adopted by US could push the situation much worse. US should clearly differentiate between the freedom fighters like LTTE and terrorists like
Al-qaeda to strictly use the law.
