Last week the team of Mannie Barling, Ashley F. Brooks, and Simon Barrett decided to stray out of our familiar territory of strictly health and nutrition. A common comment that our articles elicit is “Yes, I love organic food, it tastes better, it is healthier for you, but I cannot afford it. I have to buy food that is within my budget”.

Oh how true that statement is!

Last week we invited Financial Planner Rodney Ballance to join our discussion. Rodney Ballance is the host of a syndicated radio program that airs Monday to Friday ‘Ballancing Your Budget’. You can find more information on his web site.

What you may not know about Rodney Ballance is that his wife Heather Matthews is a personal trainer and a huge proponent of Organic Food. She is also scheduled as a guest on an upcoming program.

The subject of High Finance seems a long way from day to day life. The fact that the DOW Jones index is up or down seems to have little relevance when you need to buy groceries and you have only $100 in your wallet.

The truth is that understanding the bigger picture can in fact save money. I for one always chuckle when someone on the TV talks about ‘Pork Belly Futures’. Who in their right mind would care? When was the last time you went to your local supermarket and saw ‘Special of the week – Pork Belly’?

We do however hit the local gas station and inevitably grumble about the cost of gasoline. ‘Last week it was $50 to fill up, this week it was $60’.

The global economy effects everyone. The more you know, the better equipped you are to deal with the day to day challenges.

If you missed our live broadcast you can catch the recording here.
