This DVD The Norman Conquests is based on the plays by Alan Ayckbourn that aired on PBS in the late 70â€™s as it celebrates, as part of the PBS` Great Performances series. It features three full-length dramas on this 3-discs DVD set.
Three couples cross paths while at a country house all in the same weekend. There are bound to passions flare and tempers raised with them all together. In the beginning Reg (Richard Briers) and his wife, Sarah (Penelope Keith) arrive at the home. They decided to give Sarahâ€™s younger sister Annie (Penelope Wilton) a break from caring for their elderly bedridden mother.
While together Sarahâ€™s sister, Annie decides to confide in her sister with a secret she has been hiding. She confesses to her sister that she has been seeing someone and this someone was not Tom (David Troughton) the young man that had been pursuing her, but her brother-in-law Norman (Tom Conti).
Sarah doesnâ€™t take this news too well and finds it impossible to keep the secret from Normanâ€™s wife. When she informs Ruth (Fiona Walker), Normanâ€™s wife, everything falls apart among the three couples.
The three dramas included in this DVD set include Table Manners, Round and Round the Garden and Living Together. Each drama is set in different rooms of the house. Starting from Saturday evening to Monday morning segments appear around the kitchen table, outside in the garden and in the family room.
The Norman Conquests is a British Drama that runs approximately 305 minutes and has bonus features with a Biography of playwright Alan Ayckbourn and some background on the trilogy.
