We will be airing our weekly radio program on Saturday Feb/29 at 10am pacific and 1pm eastern. Joining me will be the research and writing team of Mannie Barling and Ashley F. Brooks. This week we will have a special guest Dr. Francis Thicke.

Surviving the 21st Century has been a weekly program for some time. I have to admit that I did not see us as a force that might even get the attention of Big Food, just three three people talking about what is in almost everything you buy in the supermarket and the potential health risk. I love a good steak, but do I need the extras of growth hormones and antibiotics? I love fresh vegetables, but do I need the pesticides and wax? Sometimes I have a sweet tooth, what happened to real sugar, what is this High Fructose Corn Syrup all about? MSG, well thats stuff that Chinese Restaurants use, I don’t eat it!  So why is it in almost every packaged food?

Along the way with Surviving The 21st Century I discovered a revelation. People like Mannie Barling, Ashley F. Brooks and in a small way Simon Barrett are making a difference. Industry Wonks are following us closely. The first wave of attacks came from the ‘intelligentsia’, the scientific paid wonks. Now we have the ‘blue collar’ wonks are on our case. Pretty much the message is the same, we are citing rubbish, we are using junk science that comes from junk scientists. Of course it goes without saying that the good science is from people on the payroll. A million here, a million there, and voilà a university suddenly has found some great research.  A million here and a million there can also go a long way to negating those occasional independent studies that get in the way of ‘progress’.

Our guest on the program this week is a farmer, he operates a dairy farm in Iowa, 80 cows might not seem a large number when compared to the Factory Farms, but this is quest that few people would take on. Francis Thicke is also a very intelligent man. His Ph.D. is in an area that I found interesting, soil. Something that we take for granted, yet soil is the life blood of the planet. He is a firm believer in letting nature rather than Monsanto run his life.

This program will be an interesting one. To listen in live please point your browser to this link.
