The feeling of too much turkey and fixings is rumbling around your stomach. Your mind is struggling with the feeling of a hangover – a food hangover. The morning newspaper looks blurry. Your children’s mouths are moving out of sync with their words.

Was it too many second helpings? Or was it too much beer and wine? It must be the morning after Thanksgiving. The “Black Friday” of American health.

The first impulse is to have another helping of mashed potatoes and gravy for breakfast to get rid of the “hair of the turkey”. There is nothing like turkey leftovers the morning after along with a high sugar content soda. If that doesn’t work, crack open another beer or look for that last glass of wine in the bottle. One of them will surely make you feel better.

After Thanksgiving remedies range from aspirin to Alka-Seltzer to ultimately Zantac or another antacid remedy. It is all part of the American tradition – overeating until the edge of being sick on Thanksgiving. This feeling can happen to even those who limit their portions and eschew second helpings.

Everyone avoids the scale as if it were contaminated by nuclear waste. I swear I can hear it growl when I walk bye. If anyone out there has not gained weight from a Thanksgiving Dinner, please raise your hand.

We have all done it. And we all have experienced some sense of remorse from the previous day’s meal that hung around for literally days. On those days, a couch never looked better and leftovers never seemed more enticing. But why do we feel that way the day after every Thanksgiving?

If you have ever gained more than five pounds from a Thanksgiving Dinner, listen up. It is not the L-tryptophan that makes you drowsy and feel stuffed but still hungry the next day. In spite of all the food, many find themselves drooling for their next turkey leftovers – a turkey sandwich, potatoes and gravy or a leftover wing or drumstick. Pick your poison.

Your discomfort and weight gain are the result of far too many chemicals in your food that pollute your body much like food poisoning. Yes, it is possible to experience a form of food poisoning from eating too many chemicals contained in a Thanksgiving dinner.

It is a wonder anyone is able to go shopping on “Black Friday” after gorging out on a chemically stuffed Thanksgiving meal. Maybe that explains where the  angry aggressive crowds that push each other out of the way to buy gifts no one really remembers a year later, come from. A chemical “down” from the previous day.

For singles, a frozen Thanksgiving Dinner at home is a chemical disaster. A packaged frozen Thanksgiving Dinner consisting of simple appetizers, a Hungry-Man Turkey meal, Cranberry stuffing and Entermann’s Raspberrry tart or Nestle’s Toll House cookies for dessert contains more than 600 ingredients, 7,000 plus mg of salt and 280 grams of sugar (approximately10 ounces of sugar).

And this doesn’t include any See’s or Godiva chocolates, finger foods such as potato chips during the games or ice cream later in the evening. We won’t even try to calculate all the sugar and other chemicals in all of the sodas, beer and wine served.

Thanksgiving Dinner made by even the best cooks from store-bought packaged goods may contain even more chemicals, salt and sugar than frozen meals. If you don’t believe us, read the packages, look up the ingredients and total them up for yourself. Be sure to supersize the numbers by the supersized portions.

Do you know that your non-organic turkey was raised in a cage on a high-density factory farm where it was kept knee-deep in its own urine-soaked manure? Do you know that your turkey was fed genetically modified corn (gene split with the dangerous Bt toxin), synthetic animal growth hormones (rBGH) and fed daily doses of antibiotics?

Do you know that Tyson Foods pumps up their Turkeys with more than 15% salt and MSG?  Have you noticed how many packaged goods come with more than one form of high fructose corn syrup as a secondary sugar substitute? Your Thanksgiving meal now consists of corn product derivatives and a little turkey meat and GMO potatoes.

Have you ever counted the chemicals in packaged turkey stuffing, cranberry sauce or I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter? Some packaged goods contain as many as 160 chemicals. The better products still contain as many as 40. All contain hidden MSG.

Americans are no longer eating a Thanksgiving meal that gives thanks for the bountiful crops of our forefathers. It is no longer about thanking nature for contributing so much to our lives. It is about how many different foods American food manufacturers can sell you in one week at the expense of your health.

These foods are chocked full of addictive chemical additives that lead to weight gain and food addiction. What do you think causes you to drool for more turkey leftovers despite eating more food in one meal than you may have in the two days before?

That is also why so many Americans start talking about going on a diet after New Year’s before they start the partying that accompanies the Christmas holidays. The holidays are one long overdose of chemicals in your food.

Food sensitivity and intolerance expert, Dr. Daniel C. Dantini, observes that hospital emergency rooms are quiet on Thanksgiving but full the day after. Patients complain of rapid heart beat, high blood pressure, abdominal pain and a host of other digestive related illnesses – all related to Thanksgiving dinners.

Dr. Dantini says that the hidden corn by-products (high fructose corn syrup), genetically modified foods, high table salt content and other chemicals are the cause. For many, it takes weeks to recover.

Did you ever think that a Thanksgiving meal would fall into the category of junk food? Big Food (America’s largest food manufacturers) has succeeded in changing an American holiday into an orgy of chemicals. Your meal was essentially created by a “mad scientist” in a Frankenstein-like laboratory mixing and matching chemicals looking for the perfect food substitute. He or she wasn’t thinking of your health for even a moment.

This year try “real food” on Thanksgiving. Buy a free-range fed organic turkey like our mom’s once did. Skip the pesticide-soaked genetically modified (GMO) vegetables for the real deal – vegetables fresh from the garden of someone who really cares about what they grow. Why eat GMO potatoes when organic ones takes far better?

Avoid the bottled gravies that require more than 40 chemicals and cancer causing food colors to make it eatable. If nature didn’t give your food its color, then don’t eat foods someone has to paint a pretty color to make you eat. You won’t eat a pretty painting off your wall, will you? Then why eat spray-painted and dyed foods?
