This Saturday at 10am pacific, 1pm eastern we will have another broadcast in our Surviving The 21st Century series. Very much this will be a continuation of our program last week.

Water is the very lifeblood of the planet, yet our modern ways are doing much to harm this vital resource. As man plunders and pillages the planet he is leaving his footsteps in a most harmful manner.

Joining me to discuss the subject will be the husband and wife writing and research team of Mannie Barling and Ashley Brooks.

I am also hoping that Kindra Arnesen of the Coastal Heritage Society of Louisiana will be with us for the first part of the broadcast to bring us an update on the BP Gulf oil spill disaster. Gone are the shocking images of oil covered Pelicans and other sea birds, but make no mistake, the ecological disaster is only just beginning!

I am being told that to supplement the rain water analysis CHSL has now acquired access to some air quality monitoring equipment. It is still early days, and it is unknown if lab results are available yet, but I am hoping that we will get some preliminary observations.

Many people suffer from what I call the NIMBY syndrome, the problem is Not In My Back Yard so I don’t care. This week we are going to show you that the problem is indeed in Your Back Yard when it comes to water.

How many of you drink tap water? A high percentage of people do not, they claim that it smells odd, or it has a nasty taste to it. Instead they prefer to drink bottled water, well, I hate to tell you this, but many well-known brands are nothing more than repackaged tap water.

Sure, the companies put the water through a filtration process, but this does not remove many of the impurities.

Where do these impurities come from? To answer that question you must look at the life cycle of that ice cold bottle of water in your refrigerator.

In simple terms it starts in the ocean, the warmer air causes some water to evaporate, and this produces clouds. The clouds produce rain. This is nature’s natural desalination technique. The rain falls to the ground and through a myriad of streams, rivers and lakes create our water source.

This natural factory has been in operation for millennia. Modern man however is changing this cycle. As our factories and cars pollute the air, they become part of the cycle. Returning the water in clouds to land as “acid rain.”

This “acid rain” becomes not only part of our drinking water, but also part of our food chain. It is in the plants we grow, it is in the animals and fish that we eat, it is everywhere.

To quote from a great song by Blood, Sweat and Tears:

What goes up must come down
spinning wheel got to go round
Talking about your troubles it’s a crying sin
Ride a painted pony
Let the spinning wheel spin

This spinning wheel though is one that cannot keep spinning.

The effects on peoples’ health are becoming cause for great alarm.

Let me add another couple of other problems.

Pharmaceuticals in flushed into the water systems of countries like India where many American pharmaceuticals and food are imported.

Pesticides and fertilizer run-off pollutes well water, streams, lakes and reservoirs.

This is going to be a program that you will not want to miss. I do hope that you will be able to join us on Saturday. The direct link is here.
