These quotes say a lot about this DVD set, The Lord Peter Wimsey Mysteries, Set 2. The series is based on the novels written by the beloved crime writer, Dorothy L. Sayers. The late Ian Carmichael stars as Lord Peter Wimsey, the debonair sleuth. It is wittily scripted and lavishly produced. This set includes the final three feature-length mysteries.

  • Murder Must Advertise – An employee at an advertising agency falls down a spiral stair case and manages to break his neck so Lord Peter goes deep undercover at Pym’s Publicity to investigate the suspicious death of the young copywriter who had an affair with a wealthy and indolent socialite.
  • Five Red Herrings – Lord Peter comes up with six different suspects after the body of an artist, Sandy Campbell that wasn’t too popular was found in a stream. Campbell was an artist that alienated everyone in Galloway and was described as a violent and malicious man. Lord now has to figure out which of the six suspects are guilty of the crime.
  • The Nine Tailors – Lord Wimsey finds himself stranded in a sleepy village after a car accident. He soon finds out about a decades-old case of stolen emeralds when a corpse is found. Lord Peter sets out to find the identity of the dead man and it becomes a huge mystery as to who killed the man and to make matters worse they have to figure out how the man was killed.

The original Lord Peter Wimsey aired in the UK from 1972 to 1975 and it adapted five of Sayer’s novels. Set 2’s series aired on PBS in the mid 70’s.
