I can imagine no greater cruelty than the Republican block on extending unemployment insurance to millions of Americans desperate for jobs. At the very least one cannot travel to a potential job interview with no money! How many more children will go hungry, be driven from their homes.
This move discloses the Republicans for what they are — greedy bastards! Pardon the expression, but is the mildest that fits this pattern developing in American of increasing wealth at the cost of the poor and now the middle income hit by job cutbacks.
Also having done blue collar jobs as a student, I know that backs and other injuries block workers from continuing jobs. To delay social security to 67 hits them hard. I worked as an academic until I was 74 — no physical strain. Lawyers and doctors do the same as presumably CEOs etc.
American democracy is rapidly fading away to be replaced by oligarchy — rule and benefits by and for the rich. Sadly the dream of winning the lottery pulls along a number who are the victims of this system — the Tea Party gimmick.
Hopefully this latest Republican move and others will reveal their true intent before it is too late to recover American democracy

BUT! We have to have a way to pay for it, or our Children will end up paying for it. How will they feed their children when 50% of their paycheck is taken out in taxes?
Give me a way to pay for this idea that doesn’t include taking away from my ability to live when save when I get older and take away from my grandchildren, and I’ll jump on your bandwagon.
Mr. Ed, you are not getting enough fiber. After almost 2 years on unemployment its time to cut the cord. Case in point : My neighbor has been drawing for over a year and refuses to look for a job. He works for cash and draws a check. Republicnas aren’t greedy, Democrats are just stupid. Tiffany is right. If they can paygo then go for it. Do you really believe the 13 Trillion dollar deficit will be paid back by the next generation? Or the one after that? What do you think will happen to this democracy when we get there? You gripe alot but you never offer any logical solution. I bet you are a democrat.
I personally know several people on unemployment who could go back to work if they wanted.
But, like they say, I don’t have to buy gas, pay for child care, get up early, and still get a check. Some are getting assistance from other government agencies, etc.
I am sure there are a lot of people who can’t find work, but I know for a fact that some are just riding the wave of “free” money.

Bizrlee, if the taxpayers are being taxed to provide money for unemployed people, and they, in turn are spending the unemployment compensation. How, exactly, is that supporting and helping the economy? Unless the money being spent by persons is money that was earned through some type of work or production that supports the nation, than the funds being spent are nothing but a false crutch to a broken economy, and it is not in one bit preventing others from becoming unemployed…please, educate yourself
Presumably the vast majority of those collecting unemployment were paying for it in advance with taxes and will again if they can get jobs. It is their children about which I worry. Once again we have been turned into an oligarchy where the rich get vastly richer and the poor are left to die. When I first started teaching, we had fair tax rates. Now the rich have been offered big escape hatches since Reagan. Ed
As a someone that has been on unemployment I can honestly say you can’t stay on it for very long . One needs to get off soon or you feel very dependant on it. gopick up aluminum cans ,mow lawns, paint houses, take a job with lower than you made before wages ,yes that happens , but its better than starving and being dependant on the government,who doesnt have any money of their own , just everyone else’s money that is strugleing also!
Yes I am a 99er of unemployment.I have worked for 36 years at diffrent jobs in my life ending a truck driver.Finding a new job is NOT fun! Driving 60 miles to a interview to be let down. Gas at 2.69 gal.that cost me 25.00 for nothing.Dont give me the s?*# about we like living this way!!!!!!!! would you like eating ham today that expired 2/2009 or a can of cream corn with rust on lid expired 6/2001,Or maybe you would like brown eggs with shit&fethers on them and dark black spots in yoke.yummmmy!From my county for help.Try some and see if you get sick and no doctor will see you because YOU ARE UNEMPLOYED!
When you were in school did your teacher blindfold you so you could no what it was like to be blind,Same thing try to live like us for awile.I found a job 3 hour a week at 8,00 per hour. thats 24.00 per week. try to live on that.Dont forget the 10$ for gass.
