It does not take a law degree or a PHD to figure out that Jose Baez and his team have made a quantum error in getting rid of Judge Strickland. The new guy, Judge Perry runs a very tight ship, one that I am sure is frustrating Baez to the max.
Todays shenanigans concerned the ‘Death Penalty Phase’ of the case. Excuse my ignorance, but unless I am much mistaken Casey Anthony has only been found guilty of writing some bad checks on her friends account. While I cannot condone the idea of stealing someones check book and buying a case of Bud Light and various other items, it hardly seems like a crime that someone should lose their life over.
Why is the courts time being used to discuss a ‘what if’ matter?
I was not there in person, but watched most of the proceedings on the live video feed.
I guess the biggest question in my mind is why would you need an ‘expert’ (yes the quote marks are there for a reason) to discuss a purely hypothetical question? I wonder how much the Tax Payers paid?
A witness was brought in from New Mexico just to talk about how mean courts are to mothers who kill their daughters! Gender discrimination was the ploy. I can’t even conceive of a more stupid argument. Our expert explained that she has studied ALL of the cases involving this phenom. In the next sentence she tells us that the number is four or five.
Why are they even talking about the death penalty when the trial has not even started?
Andrea Lyon got on her soap box, the State is not playing fair, she tells us. To seek the death penalty you need to have an ‘aggravating circumstanceâ€, there are 15 possibilities, and the prosecution has only ruled of 9 of them.
The Defense whined long and hard about the Discovery process. In a pretty clear statement the Prosecution pointed out that they would be willing to show Jose Baez their case, but only if he reciprocated with his defense strategy.
My wife Jan usually likes to watch the soap operas. This morning she was glued to the live feed.
Baez has an uphill battle on his hands. His new ‘best friend’ Cheney Mason’ might just have tipped the scale. Andrea Lyon also seemed to have avoided scoring any points today. The Defense asks, the Prosecution answers. Ms Lyon led the court on a merry excursion, but when it was said and done, she failed miserably.
My recollection is Denied, Denied, Denied!

I truly thought today’s session would last much longer than it did. Judge Perry certainly runs a tight ship.
I must add that I agreed with Jeff Ashton that the defense is playing games. Even I, who has no law degree and only one pair of eyes to read the 14,000 pages of discovery, have been able to ascertain which aggrevating factors exist in this case. Even if the defense couldn’t do this with their 4 pairs of eyes, Mr. Ashton’s presentation in the December hearing in which he described in detail the three (3!) pieces of duct tape around Caylee’s mouth and nose should have been some clue to the defense as to the prosecution’s case. This “dream team” is indeed a prosecutor’s nightmare.
i am so glad this new judge is on this case,i can’t believe bozo is going that far to say the DP is gender based,anybody who murders a child should get the DP,are life without parole,casey is no different,what should she get a slap on the wrist and sent back out to live her life while caylee is dead,did u see how she cried about that,but never a tear about her murder daughter,she really makes me sick to my stomach,also bozo was boo hooing over her party pics,well sorry that showed her frame of mind when caylee was supposely missing

I often find your comments amusing but this offering is just plain ignorant. The defense wants the death penalty gone today! Why you ask? Three words: DEATH QUALIFIED JURORS. Baez & Co. don’t want to see no stinkin’ LOL DEATH QUALIFIED JURORS. Baez & Co.want jurors with a deep distrust of law enforcement. Lisa Croslin would be his ideal juror. LOL He wants to go to Miami where the trust level is extremely low. He wants the death penalty off the table NOW so no DEATH QUALIFIED JURORS are ever seated.

The evidence looks overwehlming against casey.
The ONLY thing baez can do is try hail mary after hail mary to keep his client alive.
He’ll have a book deal done the day after the trial is over. That will be his paymeny for this case. Saying that the state was trying bankrupt casey is another hail mary attempt. As if he won’t be compensated highly for the effort.
I love this judge, love the attorneys for the prosecution. Only wish they would replay that one hearing – way back- where the prosecution was asking how Baez was being paid. I thought the prosecution’s original request about how Anthony’s case was being funded was to address the the moral question…. Should Caylee’s alleged murderer fund her defense by selling Caylee’s story? At that time they likened it to a bank robber using the proceeds of the robbery to fund their defense. Somehow, selling Caylee’s photos to fund the defense, passed the morally legal test? Amazing.
Am not going to criticize Strickland, he was a good and fair judge. Irritated me that they referred to him in that recent motion as “disqualified” instead of “voluntarily recused due to defense accusations”. Lyon still comes across as way in over her head, no matter how legendary she is in her own mind. Irritating voice and manner to listen to, not nearly as clear and succinct as the prosecution team. jmho
I admit I held a higher opinion of Judge Strickland before I saw Judge Perry at work. The differences between the Efficiency of these two are big & wide!

It’s sad that no matter what, Her parents still sit on her side instead of Caylee’s side.
The dream team seem to be sweating. And you can tell that their days are numbered and they know it. They can use every excuse they want. NO JURY is going to accept 31 days of no phone call to report a child missing. And even then, It took for Casey’s mother to make the call. But when protesters were at their house, Casey jumped on the phone to call the police due to the protesters being there. The evidence is overwhelming. Ashton said it best when he was talking about 3 pieces of duct tape. That was the first time Casey cried. The only reason she cried is because she knew she was busted then. She knew her life was over then. That’s why the dream team is fighting so hard on the Death Penalty. They know they have already lost. No matter where the Jury comes from, They still have to look at FACTS. And the FACT is, Casey killed Caylee. JMHO

I can’t imagine what Baez and company were thinking putting that woman on the stand yesterday. That was her first trip into a courtroom as a witness.
Talk about mistakes. That was just sad and I have to say that Judge Perry did an excellent job of keeping control of his courtroom and the lawyers.
I like Judge Perry and I would bet that Baez and Company are wishing that they had kept their mouths shut about Strickland and bloggers.
I cruised by this blog for the first time today. It is a good one, with very good writing and nary a troll in site. I do not wish to become a troll, but would rather briefly address the Law school Professor from Arizona (via harvard and? Duke. She is a tenured professor and she did a decent job, especially from someone who admits she has not read much about this case and has never testified in any court based on her work. She states there are so few cases where DA’s ask for the death penalty against women and therefore does not have much case law to depend. Isn’t the fact that there are so few cases where woman are being tried under a death penalty negate her whole hypothesis? To look at the gender in any death row it would seem that men are experiencing gender bias! Its late and maybe I am just missing something here, I also like that right after Jose was whining about getting some (csf?) on expert witnesses the state was going to call and not five minutes later Miss Lyons puts up her expert with NONE of the required information on her. The Irony drips day by day in this case………

The DUHfense looks desperate with all these frivilos motions. They are REALLY having to get creative trying to find a way for Lyons to get the DP pulled. After all, this would be her first time to fail at doing so I believe. But you’d think she could come up with something a little better than the DP is gender biased, the prosecution only went for the DP to bankrupt the DUHfense, they’re picking on us, he touched me, he’s looking at me, I’m telling mom!
