They end up getting a contingency of groupies who will agree with anything and everything the control freak says. We see this with bullies at elementary schools and adult bullies at the workplace. The only difference is that the adults have become more subtle and insidious. The problem for those who are not intimidated by the bully is that they now have not only the bully to deal with, but also a weak, mindless crowd who idolizes the bully and won't open their minds to reason. A double whammy.
