eBay loves undeserved negative punishment for all of their sellers, they think it's a funny joke to hurt someone for no reason at all, they put the blame on the buyer, saying hey were not the ones who gave you that stupid negative stating your a criminal con artist seller, when the buyer never even paid for the item they just wanted to give the seller a negative for the absolute fun of it, ebay says so what big deal your all trash and we hate your guts, the CEO is a psycho maniac that loves to destroy big company's and eventually wants to just go on and destroy the world

I will never buy another thing on ebay, no matter what.
I am moving on as are most of us shell shocked sellers.
If they apologized and undid all this insanity I still would not continue.
they are sick, greedy people who would sell their own for a buck.
I hope they get everything thats coming to them.

People keep saying "eBid is gaining ground" etc, but it simply isn't true (however much i wish there was a real eBay alternative)
ebid currently has 2,047,260 listings in total
ebay has 11,020,862 just on a search for 'books'
Sad I know.

What I don’t understand is why so many eBay sellers still do not understand what is going on at eBay at the moment. Of course eBay is rationing the exposure of listings. Once again they have been found wanting by their own incompetence. Why else do you think they are now talking to Teradata Corp other than in the hope that Teradata will be able to supply eBay with a quick fix for the problem that they themselves should have been able to anticipate—if they were at all competent. (Can’t you just see these headless turkeys running around the executive meeting room, bumping into each other, on the phone to Teradata every five minutes asking, “When is it going to be fixed, when is it going to be fixed, …?”)

Of course, eBay management’s most serious flaw is that they can never meet the level of ability/competence/intelligence that they expect of every one else and they are such an unscrupulous bunch of white-collar criminals that they will never admit that anything is wrong, indeed they will, with a straight face, undoubtedly swear on the Bible that nothing is wrong.

The real question is, how long is it going to take Teradata to supply and install a solution to this “non-existing” problem, and then is eBay, as a matter of course, going to forgo charging affected sellers fees, or at least charge fees on a pro rata basis for the exposure that sellers actually got? Probably not. With the standard of data base programming that we have come to expect from eBay, I suspect that would be beyond their capability. And, after all, they now, even more desperately than ever, need those fees to prop up their revenue for what surely has to be looming as a disastrous second quarter, notwithstanding the ever present “creative accounting” that such devious organizations as eBay invariably employ.

And if you want an understanding of why Western Civilization appears to be in decline, have a look at the two featured buffoons and the sycophantic moderator in this video: “Donahoe and Thiry Talk Leadership Challenges”. Actually, I doubt you will be able to sit through the whole video and heaven knows how the graduates did so, it is simply mind-numbing, and to think that these two lobotomized chimps (watch the hand waving) are making decisions at very large corporations is simply frightening.

EBid for an Example has been gaining ground! They have the Simplicity the OLD EBAY had! I started listing on EBay feb 2010. I listed the way EBay reccomends,99 Cent listings, I did not get but a few bids that had more than 1 Buyer, and the rest raised a nickle at a time! 90% of my bids I COULD not even find listed, and I had NO watchers! The Internet time seems to go to the Mass merchandisers, who have everything I can get At the mall. I really feel sorry for the Powersellers who were not given enough time to react to the new changes, and can't recover from the changes! I started on a new Site Called EBid, traffic is lower, but with 3%VS 9% fvf I can afford to get less sales. The Most inportant thing about EBid is how nice everyone is! Their realize that the more Sellers they have the More Sales they will get! I feel valued there!

I agree with much of this artice - eBay's changes have been very frustrating.
I've lost my gold power sell status and even my standard status. My sales in the UK have effectively halved, and my fees have increased from the typical £1200 I payed in March to £1700 in April.
eBay announced these changes on 1st Feb and then judged me from 1st April for the previous 3 months (ie from 1st of January) - even if I could have made these changes on 1st Feb (ie create a new price structure and edit hundreds of templates) - it would have still taken 7 days for my first listings to end (8th Feb) - 3 or 4 days for people to pay (12th Feb) 2 days for me to send (14th Feb) - 3 or 4 days for item to arrive (19th Feb) and 2 to 3 weeks for people to leave feedback (now we are already in March). In order to get my P&P DSR rating to the new 2% (I was comfortably within 4% previously) level I would have to own a time machine.
For May I've decided to run a skeleton listing policy - basically I'm listing 1/3 of the items I usually would, until 20th May when I shall get my gold seller rating back and above standard status (top rated in the US), so at least buyers should be able to see my items in the search. eBay's takings will be substantially down from me this month.
I do however feel that the new situation simply creates a new environment for sellers to respond to - in 1 month we'll see these changes kick in. Those sellers who can't deal with it will fall away and the rest of us will take over from them. In the long term I may be able to make more money for less fees. What spoils this is that eBay didn't give us enough time to implement the changes necessary - I've effectively lost 2 months and so had eBay.
If I try a standard search on a typical search of my items all that comes to the top are a load of people with feedback of less than 100, poor photographs and items I wouldn't risk buying in a million years. It must be very frustrating for buyers doing a search and then having to flick through several pages before they can find serious sellers.
Come 20th May we'll see what happens. All the the power sellers will be back with above standard ratings.

And, no doubt when the new “reduced” fees for all that stuff moved from store to core kick in, there will probably be an undoubted prompt reversal of that 100% “increase” in indexed listings, back to where we started. A bit like doing a PayPal charge back, only the joke is going to be on the Chief Headless Turkey and his gaggle of gobbling sycophantic underlings this time.

One has to wonder what else this fool and his troupe of lobotomized chimps can come up with to complete the destruction of this marketplace? In the meantime I look forward to the Don’s “creative” accounting on July 21 and October 21. Can’t wait …

Yo’ all have to come to terms with the fact that the people currently running eBay are a bunch of totally unscrupulous, disingenuous, incompetent buffoons. There are absolutely no bounds to the idiocy that they will display in their desperate attempts to maintain eBay’s revenue.

Can’t you just see this bunch of headless turkeys running around the executive meeting room, bumping into each other, trying to figure out what trick they can pull out of the hat tomorrow to get the latest serving of egg off their faces.

And, they have to regularly raise fees now. How else do you think that the current Chief Headless Turkey has any chance of maintaining the figures for the “markets”: it’s all perfectly logical, as you drive away more and more paying customers, you simply charge the remaining customers more and more; it’s MBA basics, apparently.

Regardless, with the state that eBay is presently in, in the US at least, “Turkey” Donahoe now has to be holding his breath—I don’t imagine Teradata Corp. are going to be able to solve the problem (What problem? There’s no problem!) overnight—one can only hope that Donahoe asphyxiates himself in the meantime.

The whole absurdity of this arrogant man’s policies has created a cycle that reminds me somewhat of the Kafula bird, that little African humming bird that for some unknown reason starts flying at ever increasing speed, in ever decreasing circles, until it finally disappears up its own ...; and in “Turkey” Donahoe’s case, the sooner the better!

I stand corrected...in effect, we pay MORE fees and we get no discounts. My last listing is winding down tonight. There is no way I'll list on Ebay again unless I see some traffic there and some active buying that filters down to the small sellers. Ebay is either arrogant of full of themselves or they're downright stupid - they seem to have almost completely cut small sellers off from traffic to their listings. I refuse to give them one more dime for NO SERVICE. In the meantime, I am beginning to make sales on other venues. It takes time and patience - BUT with nothing really selling on Ebay its a good time to spread my listings around ;-) Thanks for correcting me.

@Patricia013
You made a slight error, and I think it important enough to correct it. You incorrectly stated that you pay the same fees as the top-rated sellers. Remember, these top sellers have their listing fees waived, can negotiate FVFs, as well as eBay Policy (whatever THAT means).

I posted this great and TRUTHFUL blog on Griff's facebook wall this morning, but wouldn't you know it, he deleted it.

He doesn't want everyone to know the truth about ebay and paypal.

The following is Griff's facebook link, if anyone else wants to add it.
It would be fun to see how many times it's added and then watch him remove each.

ebay thinks they rule the world!

i want to remind sellers who rules ebay.

if you remove what it has to offer then what can it rule?

#1 take down your listings.
#2 act like the buyers, by 99 cent items, pay for em and leave bad feedback and DSRs

shutting down sellers is like setting a broken leg, it is going to hurt, but it starts the healing.

Looking at the one line posts here i would say you have meet ebays dirty tricks department who have been trying to register new members on the eBuster,co,uk site using spam bait for the email address.

You might like to show a number here that needs to be completed before taking anymore posts.

eBay profit dropped 29% is not the way you rule the world and they also sacked 1500 members of staff who i'm sure would like to spill the beans on what goes on inside eBay.

Left eBay in August 2008, after getting jerked around one time too many. Built a true online store and have never looked back. Kept PayPal for transaction processing, and they are now (suddenly) holding (I'm not making this up) ~$120,000 of our money hostage, even though they agree we have not violated a single provision of their Acceptable Use Policy and/or User Agreement. It's become clear to me PayPal is a deceptive and evil company, and we will be eliminating them entirely from our online checkout process soon.

Meanwhile, the great value that eBay DID contribute to the world -- connecting individual sellers for one-of-a-kind item transactions (used and unusual goods in particular) -- has diminished so badly on the site that I no longer look there when trying to find something. It used to be my first stop, for just about everything. It's a shame, what eBay has done to its Marketplace, mostly thanks to John Donahoe's, uhm... "disruptive innovation."

Given the unfairly-tilted, byzantine labyrinth he has created for sellers, I sure must admit, I'm very relieved to not be selling there any longer.

Best of luck to you.

Thank you sooooo much for bringing this to light outside of ebay world! ALL of this is totally true and is the bane of our existence right now. We have been bludgeoned into the ground by the ebay hammer and would love for things to change for the better so we could continue ebay commerce. But they have effectively brought us to a halt. Sellers are jumping ship left and right and I expect the smaller "venues" will be growing everyday.

Instead of selling products using Ebay stores and auctions.. save yourself a lot of money with your own website and paypal storefront where you control/list your own inventory. Your end cost could be as little as $3.95/mo for hosting. Your store.. you control it and you own it.

I always refer to eBay “members” as eBay “users”, for to refer to them as “members”, as eBay does, is to imply that the organisation is run for even some benefit of those members—it is not: No action taken (or not taken) by eBay management has anything to do with benefiting or protecting eBay users (buyers or sellers); eBay’s every action (or lack thereof) is purposed solely towards benefitting eBay—and by whatever means, no matter how disingenuous—undoubtedly more to do with the recovery of those “lost” executive performance bonuses than with any direct consideration for stockholders—and if at any time there appears to be some benefit to eBay “users”, that will be purely coincidental.

John Donohoe is a terrorist. His constant anti seller changes have forced thousands of long term good sellers off ebay. The changes March 30th were ebay's 911. I have had 1 negative feedback since 1998, and refuse to sell on ebay anymore. I was a Top Rated Seller who left all of the horrific changes.

I have been a seller of Automobilia on EBAY for over 6 years.
Things were going reasonably well until they changed the DSR's and Handling time. Since we make all our items custom to order it can take up to 10 days to ship. Even though we did everything EBAY asked us to do we got demoted because we got low ship time ratings from buyers who did not read the handling time. Ebay will soon be a place where you buy only toothpaste and coat hangers. Your article brings up some major points, it looks like EBAY wants less business all round. I was talking to an Ebay rep today that told me that my buyers were ebays customers - I said no they don't pay you, I do, I am your customer - the buyers are attracted to the items I make and pay me. Not smart to treat sellers so poorly - EBAY acts as if there is an unlimited supply of sellers and no Amazon.com
The bright side now is that our own website sells more than EBAY since they changed the core settings. I have to ask myself why we pay thousands of dollars a year to ebay at all.
The whole experience is like being in junior high and getting sent to the principles office every week, but never being able to talk to the principle. I think you are right about paypal - it is all EBAY has left that is growing and the credit card companies won't sit by idle and let paypal rule the web forever.

Good article - I confess I got to the charts and then wandered away from it. I'm not a chart type person. Your explanation of the stores was accurate and put in an clean and interesting way.

I'm a 12 year seller on Ebay - my category is art and I can tell you sales and traffic have gone down to almost nothing.....now we also contend with Ebay's stupid idiosycracies and are penalized if we don't sell enough. Right now, I'm an ASS - yep, Above Standard Seller ;-) I'll lose that soon and be utterly buried in the listings...impossible to find. And for THAT, I get to pay the same fees top rated sellers pay.

One big fear Ebay should have (but is far too arrogant to bother to understand)....they've raised fees and lowered exposure to all but their top sellers and their diamond sellers....there really is NO reason for the rest of us to be there. A little at a time, sellers are realizing that and they are wandering off. Some will open their own sites, some will list on other sites that are free or much lower than ebay. In any event, this is traffic since sellers are also buyers. I see doom in Donahoe's future and its speeding toward him like a big brick wall. He's already had his compensation package slashed by 55 percent. The board doesn't do that to a CEO who is "right on track" as Donahoe professes.

Right now, I'm listing and making sales elsewhere and on my own site too. I'm no longer walking on hot coals or waiting for some buyer who is having a bad hair day to destroy my 12 year pristine reputation! Ebay has never come close to the kind of service I give my customers...and they likely never will.

Don't forget the new seller requirements coming out in September. Sellers will be WRONG no matter what....even if proven the buyer picked the wrong seller by mistake - that seller will still have a mark against them. Well....I'm out of the asylum and have no intention of going back while the inmates are loose and running the place!

Nice article - thanks of the clear explanations.

Good article - I confess I got to the charts and then wandered away from it. I’m not a chart type person. Your explanation of the stores was accurate and put in an clean and interesting way.

I’m a 12 year seller on Ebay - my category is art and I can tell you sales and traffic have gone down to almost nothing…..now we also contend with Ebay’s stupid idiosycracies and are penalized if we don’t sell enough. Right now, I’m an ASS - yep, Above Standard Seller I’ll lose that soon and be utterly buried in the listings…impossible to find. And for THAT, I get to pay the same fees top rated sellers pay.

One big fear Ebay should have (but is far too arrogant to bother to understand)….they’ve raised fees and lowered exposure to all but their top sellers and their diamond sellers….there really is NO reason for the rest of us to be there. A little at a time, sellers are realizing that and they are wandering off. Some will open their own sites, some will list on other sites that are free or much lower than ebay. In any event, this is traffic since sellers are also buyers. I see doom in Donahoe’s future and its speeding toward him like a big brick wall. He’s already had his compensation package slashed by 55 percent. The board doesn’t do that to a CEO who is “right on track” as Donahoe professes.

Right now, I’m listing and making sales elsewhere and on my own site too. I’m no longer walking on hot coals or waiting for some buyer who is having a bad hair day to destroy my 12 year pristine reputation! Ebay has never come close to the kind of service I give my customers…and they likely never will.

Don’t forget the new seller requirements coming out in September. Sellers will be WRONG no matter what….even if proven the buyer picked the wrong seller by mistake - that seller will still have a mark against them. Well….I’m out of the asylum and have no intention of going back while the inmates are loose and running the place!

Did someone mention eBay/PayPal?

Visa/Banks prepare to put PayPal back into its eBay box

Draft Media Release

It is with very great sadness that “Dr Death” Donahoe MBA (aka Peter Principle), eBay Chief Headless Turkey, is expected to announce the probable imminent demise of eBay’s most ugly daughter, PayPal. “Noise” Donahoe is expected to advise the market that it is probable that PayPal is about to be stricken by a particularly virulent strain of Visa + CyberSource, accompanied by insurmountable financial institutions complications. PayPal’s health may therefore be expected to deteriorate and, if ultimately not completely incapacitated, will most likely be eventually confined to what little there is by then left of the Donahoe-devastated eBay Marketplaces. There is no known cure this condition, and the “eBafia Don” will undoubtedly also say that he is particularly saddened by the inevitable presumption that it is unlikely that PayPal will be able to continue to underpin eBay’s bottom line in the future.

A detailed examination of and prognosis for the patient at
http://www.auctionbytes.com/forum/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=6504554

And for anyone interested generally in the matter of eBay’s unscrupulousness, including its criminal facilitation of the rampant shill bidding fraud being perpetrated by unscrupulous professional sellers on buyers on eBay nominal-start auctions, an introduction thereto can be found at
