Speaking at the CII conference on Cyber Security. “Emerging Cyber Threats and Challenges”, (Chennai, 24th April 2010) the IT Secretary of Tamil Sri P W C Davidar stated that Tamil Nadu would be coming out with an Information Security Policy for the State by the end of May. The policy would take the best corporate practices but customize it to the requirements of the Government.
Mr Davidar has been in the news recently for having pronounced a land mark judgement in a Phishing Case holding ICICI Bank liable to pay a compensation of Rs 12.85 lakhs to the victim.
When Tamil Nadu comes up with the IS policy, it would be perhaps the first State in India to have a state wide IS policy. Hopefully, it would include not only a policy for the e-Governance sector but also cover issues such as Cyber Cafe security, security in the schools etc.
Karnataka which was the first State earlier to come up with a Cyber Cafe regualtion in 2004, is expected to update its Cyber Cafe policies shortly. It would be advisable if the State also takes a cue from the proposed TN IS policy and come up with a suitable e-governance IS policy of Karantaka.
