More information, credible and otherwise, is swirling this morning in the investigation into the disappearance of 6-year-old Haleigh Cummings who vanished from her Satsuma home in February 2009.

In other news of the investigation:

It had been nearly 6 months since Joe Overstreet from Tennessee, a cousin of Misty Croslin, had been questioned by police regarding the disappearance of 6-Haleigh Cummings. That all changed Tuesday night.

Firstcoastnews.com reports:

“Overstreet spent the evening with family and friends. Then around 11:30 Tuesday night his attorney, Shawn Sirgo, showed up.

The two talked outside Overstreet’s home for 20 minutes and then left in his attorney’s car.

First Coast News followed the two to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation in Nashville.

Overstreet and his attorney were escorted inside. Less than 45 minutes later, Overstreet was out and on his way back home.

“I did get a phone call from an agent in Florida. He asked if I could accompany Joseph to speak with them,” says Sirgo.

Sirgo says Overstreet’s last interview was four to six months ago and the one Tuesday night was a follow up and was not unexpected.”

This came on the heels of a new search for the missing girl Tuesday morning near a boat ramp on the St. Johns River off Shell Harbor Road near Welaka and Satsuma.

Putnam County Sheriff Jeff Hardy said Tuesday that Haleigh had not been found and that the search will go on as long as it takes.

Hardy also to a small press conference Tuesday that he had met with Haleigh’s families and the substance of those conversations will remain private. He also stated that a decision would be made later regarding the possibility changing the nature of the investigation from an abduction to a homicide.

Jail records showed that Misty Cummings, the last person to see the then-5-year-old when she vanished from her home in February 2009, was removed from the St. Johns County Jail for a short time Tuesday. The sheriff said she was being brought back to Putnam County for an interview.

By 5:30 p.m., Cummings was back in the St. Johns County Jail, where she’s being held on drug trafficking charges.

WFTV TV in Orlando is reporting that a “suspect is in custody,” but that claim has yet to be verified independently by 97.3 The SKY.
